My fiancee and I are departing for 17 days to Trinidad (well only for the cricket ODIs!) and Tobago in 2 weeks time and we are very excited.

This website is excellent and one of the best sources of tourist info I have seen for any country, let along a smallish Carribean island. However, I do have a challenge for all...

For several reasons not worth explaining, we are flying in to Tobago, staying one night at Blue Haven Hotel, then flying to Port of Spain for the two One Day Internationals with some friends. We then fly back after a few days to Tobago for a two week stay in a villa in the Mount Irvine area.

Is there anywhere in Tobago (either at the airport or elsewhere) which would allow us to safely leave some of our luggage for a few days to safe us carting it all over to PoS and back again ??

Also, as a much easier 'chaser' question, am I right in assuming that the normal two pin plugs should work out there?

Rum punch to the winner.

Many thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob

That should be an easy one. Why not email the the owner of the villa, or failing that the Blue Haven ([email protected]) and see if you can leave the luggage with either of them?

As far as electricity goes, have a look at our Electricty page - but basically it depends upon whether you're talking about two-pin flat or round. Tobago uses the standard international FLAT connector - not the round (shaver) connector.

I don't drink spirits, thanks, but a bottle of Stag would be most welcome.

Steve

FYI, Blue Haven have very kindly offered to store luggage for us for a short period. :D

Out of interest, we will be self catering in the Mount Irvine area. I have been told of a few local shops where we can buy groceries, etc. Assuming we have a vehicle, do you know of a supermarket or large grocery within reasonable driving distance of that area please?

Flying out a week today so it's fair to say we're getting more than a little excited now.

Rgds,
Rob

Hi Rob

That’s good news, but comes as no surprise. I think you’ll find most businesses on Tobago only too happy to help out.

Shopping is an easy one. You don’t have much choice, but at least it’s easy to find.

On your way out from the airport, look out for Tobago’s biggest supermarket – PennySavers. It’s on the left-hand side of the road (Milford Road), a shade over two miles from the airport. You can’t miss it because Tobago is not noted for traffic jams, but when they occur they are invariably outside PennySavers in Canaan. You can park outside, or in the car park to the left of the building.

A shade over a mile further up the road, you will turn left off Milford Road/Claude Noel Highway, onto the Shirvan Road, which takes you along the Caribbean coast to Mount Irvine. A further mile up the road, turn right into Buccoo Road, Mount Pleasant. The street name is not marked, but the turn is right on a right-hand bend, immediately left of MeShells Restaurant. Anyway, a couple of hundred metres up the road, on the right, you will find Morsheads – a ‘gourmet’ supermarket. They are more expensive than PennySavers, but offer a better range of imported goods. They are also closer to you in Mount Irvine. (Incidentally, the supermarket is sort of behind and beneath the building as you pull into the unmade drive off the road – just drive past the front of the building, then down the ramp).

It depends upon where you will be in Mount Irvine, but Morshead’s should be within 5-10 minutes drive and PennySavers less than 5 minutes more. There is also an excellent branch of PennySavers in Carnbee village (continue past Morshead’s for another mile or so, then turn right on the Buccoo/Scarborough Auchenskeoch Road. It’s then on the right a further half-mile down).
