myTobago – your questions, review and comment about Tobago

after a post with brent the photographer we agreed that it would be interesting how visitors think about the choice of souvenirs and postcards available in tobago.

luckily it is possible to buy some craftswork since a few years, but what about the postcards? in some areas the choice is quite poor and we (ali&steph) think that tourist might be happy to pay a few TT& more and get a beautyful card and helping organisatons in the country they visit. what is your experience? would you pay more to support this not poor but by far not rich country? waht do you think about the quality?

I couldn't agree more. I've always found the postcards on Tobago particularly poor - so much so that I begrudge buying them. I'm sure lots of people would like some bright, nice cards and if they're helping good local causes, so much the better.

Steph & Brian.....great idea. When we were last there I bought some to send home and I was thinking they weren't doing Tobago justice. I still have a couple and just went to peek at them an they're really not very good quality at all. Knock yourselves out and do a bang-up job on creating really good ones. People will spend $ for good quality. I'll be your first customer!

Glossy pictures just as neat. We all like to think our pictures are great, but photography is (IMO) an art and a skill.

What I'd love is pics that capture the beauty of the Island and maybe profits going to saving the place and getting rid of the concept of places like Pigeon Point.

Almost a set of 'charity' cards if you will.

I find the comments posted interesting, and would like to dig a little deeper. Perhaps readers would like to click over to digitaltobago.com and view the images especially on the landscape and life pages and give me some feedback as to the type of images you would like to see on postcards, greeting cards and large format prints, and the ones that you don't !
The road to supplying postcards and greeting cards for charitable donations is proving a long one, in the mean time I have posted some wallpapers for mytobago.info fans. Please feel free to download them and

There are some great pictures there, most would make good postcards. But NOT the spider!
No views of Castara either - it's where we're going to - I always like to send a few postcards of the "this is where we're staying" type or "this was our local beach". If you did at least one postcard of each area where tourists stay you'd be guaranteed to sell them.

Sorry, I should have posted a warning that there is a rather large shot of the Golden Silk spider shedding it's skin, and an equally large shot of a Cascabel, or Cooks Tree Boa, so if your a bit scream-ish about snakes and spiders avoid the Fauna page. I am a wildlife photographer after all.

There's a not so funny story about Castara Julia, a lesson learned the hard way. Those lovely people who thinks it's fun to send out virus'es caught me a devistating blow and I lost an awful lot of irreplaceable work, my entire northern Tobago library included. My back-up's failed. I was gutted.
I will in due course start replacing the landscapes, and I'll try to get some Castara images up to the site as soon as the unseasonable weather gives me the chance.
