Bird Identification - Blue Heron?

Post by yorkgirl »

Hi,

Apologies if I have placed this in the wrong forum. Just wondered if anyone could help me with the ID of this white heron please. At first I thought the bird was a great white Egret, than I noticed the legs were yellow and the also the beak. I've tried to do some research online and the nearest ID I can find is an immature Little Blue Heron (though the bird wasn't particularly small). I spotted the bird in the creek at Castara along with Yellow Crowned Night Herons and Green Backed herons (oh and a couple of large mating Cane toads!). If anyone could positively ID this lovely elegant bird, I would be very grateful. Many thanks.

Hello Yorkgirl

I sent a copy of your photo to Tobago leading bird-watching expert, Newton George. He has just replied and confirms that it is indeed a juvenile Little Blue Heron that will changes to blue at the adult stage.
