Airport to Coco Reef

We are visiting Tobago at the end of November for the first time, due to arrive around 5 p.m. The hotel appears to be very close to the airport and I wondered if it is practical and safe to walk (I am guessing that it would probably be dark by the time we get through the airport). Or would a taxi be a more sensible option. If so do taxis take card payment and how much is the likely cost?

Hello Charlie
Welcome aboard.
It is only 500m from the airport arrivals hall to the driveway entrance to the Coco Reef. I wouldn't personally have any issues about walking to the hall, particularly given that there is more than one of you. However, as you say, it will probably be dark by the time you get through customs and I assume that you will have luggage. Have you thought about contacting the hotel to ask if they can arrange transfer? There will be lots of taxis at the airport, but they will undoubtedly will add a surcharge for such a short local journey. I have no idea about fares, but again, the hotel will be better able to advise there. No, I don't think any will take credit cards - but they would take US dollars, I'm sure.
Cheers
Steve

As Steve says it really is very close to the airport and I think you shouldn't have any concerns regarding your safety as the area is very busy day and night. If you don't have to carry anything too heavy just walk it

Thanks for the help, I think that we'll both be ready for a walk after an eleven hour flight.

an easy walk, even after that journey - all downhill which is a bonus. landing at 1700 will mean approx another hour until full sundown at that time of year so, depending on your speed through arrivals, you should still have at least some dusk/twilight
essentially, turn right out of the airport and follw the road. past the police station, over the crossroads and its a couple of hundred metres on the left just after store bay car park.
its all relative but pavements are pretty good in the area generally - stick to the right hand side as you head downhill - that piece of sidewalk is recently refurbished and (currently) devoid of the bumps and holes that you will encounter on other routes
