myTobago – your questions, review and comment about Tobago

I am staying with my family (wife and 3 teenagers) at Coco Reef for 11 days in mid July. We have been to other Caribbean Islands and the kids have really enjoyed reef fishing. Could anyone suggest a contact to arrange this? I'm not talking about serious deep sea fishing but a few hours in the sun trying to catch anything!!!

have a look at the post by Toine & Lia on fishing from the blue Magic. Looks as if they also do more general boat fishing as well as the big game stuff.

May I suggest that your first port of call should be the http://www.myTobago.info/fishing.php myTobago Guide to Fishing on Tobago which is available through the Out & About/Activities menu.

The article, a joint venture between myself and our resident fishing expert, Steve Pitts (who seems to sneak off for short fishing breaks in Tobago every few months). The article covers offshore game fishing, inshore fishing and freshwater fishing on Tobago with a list of fishing charters and other fishing contacts on the island.

This is a bit off of my usual fishing expedition, but bearing in mind your location, with Pigeon Point and Store bay on the doorstep, it shouldn't be too difficult to find someone to take you out for a few hours fishing.

I would suggest that the off-shore game boats might be a bit too 'serious' given your comments, but they do supply all the gear. Local glass bottom boat operators could be willing to take you out, but thEy may not have the rods and reels, as handlines are the favoured method.

I have been out with Frankies tours (the contact details will be in the fishing section), on a family fishing/BBQ trip and can thorougly recommend them. If you explain that you want some inshore fishing, they may be able to allocate a boat and a couple of their excellent crew to fish anywhere between Crown point and Plymouth. They usualy proved tackle and refreshments and will stop off anywhere for snorkelling etc. Good fun for all the family. We had five in the boat (pirogue), plus 2 crew and it was 'cosy'.
They also have radio and life jackets, which is a bonus.

I'm sure that you will find a Frankie's leaflet at the Coco Reef reception, or their booking agent plies the popular beaches for prospective customers.

Hi Ron,

We went out fishing with Richard, a lifeguard on Store Bay. It was just for fun and we had a fantastic evening. Had we actually managed to catch a fish big enough to feed the 3 of us we would have gone to a beach and had a BBQ, but alas we only caught a few tiny tunas!!

It was still the best day we had on Tobago and getting the chance to walk on pelican island, and swim in the Nylon pool has given us memories that we will tell our grandchildren about!!

Richard can usually be found on Store Bay by day, or ask Harris McDonald about him and he will put you in touch with him.

We did Frankies Rum Punch Beach party and their fishing tour joined us on the beach for the barbecue. They supplied some of the fish that we were eating. The teenagers will love the partyand could even join in the limbo competition. Great fun.
