We are off to Tobago in a couple of weeks, and will be staying at the Rex Turtle Beach. Just wondered if there are any ATM's near the Hotel.
Oh, and what a fantastic site, something to be proud of Steve, I have been reading various reviews for weeks now

Hi Ralf
Thanks for the kind words
You might want to check out the relevant sections in the
Information section of the main site. However, the nearest ATM to the RTB is in the little hamlet of Pleasant Prospect, about two miles back towards the airport. It's located in the wall, next door to a Pizza Boys restaurant, which can be seen clearly from the "main" north coast road.

Do the ATM'S take "Maestro / Switch " Debit Cards? As you know Credit Cards can charge a lot for cash advances.

Hi Ralf,
Yes the ATM's take Maestro cards, don't forget your PIN

Nearest one is along the road back to the airport just past Black Rock.
Can't miss it - it is next to Pizza Boys.
It's inside, ie you swipe to get in to it, very secure and no reason to fear using it.
It is also 24/7.
HTH!
(ps, bit of a walk, minutes by car).
(oops, just noticed Steve said that!

Just another example of how good this site is, just looking forward to getting there now, my wife tells me it's only 15 sleeps

I tried to use the cash machine at Pizza Boys and it would not work - I thought I had a problem with my card, it gave the response 'Your balance is nil - therefore you cannot withdraw'

. I was concerned that someone had completely stripped my account until a lady passing by told me that 'it was probably out of money, it quite often is'. Panic over, on a trip to Scarborough the following day that allowed me to draw funds from the same account.

Hi, I'm from Canada-use my ATM card all the time in Tobago-although you can't access from some banks - you can from all Republic bank "blue machines". They are located at Penny Savers grocery stores in Canaan, the airport bank, a large drive through Republic bank near Coco Reef hotel enroute to Turtle Beach hotel. There are also ATM at the Hilton Hotel, grocery near pizza boys as mentioned, and Republic banks in town. They are all safe to use-currency is dispensed in local funds.
Have a great trip!

Steve,
Again one very big compliment for this great website!!!!!!
I tried to find out at my bank in the Netherlands whether it is possible to use my maestro banking pass in the ATM machines in Tobago. And guess what, they were not able to give me a definitive yes or no...
Than I searched the forum, the answer was quickly found!!! I can use my maestro card so I don't have to buy traveller cheques at all!!!
Keep up the good work!!!!!

Hi Arianne,
Gotta agree with you on that!
But just thought I'd let you know: I also have a maestro card and it didn't work at the first 3 banks I tried in Scarborough. The fourth ATM I tried worked - and this bank was a branch of one the earlier ones I tried. (???) So I kept going back to it, of course. Then one day it didn't accept my card. This happened to be the day I was leaving the island, we were short on time, on our way to the airport and I needed money to pay the driver plus that tax that you must pay in TT dollars when you leave. So out of desperation I tried one of the banks that had rejected my card the first time - and it worked!
In short, if you do get a problem with ATM's, just keep trying. I don't know if it's easier at Crown Point (closer to where you'll be staying) than in Scarborough (closer to where I stayed) but indeed, you won't need the traveller's cheques!
Hope this helps...

Believe it or not, I had the same problem as Kate once in Tobago and had to adopt the same attitude.....
and I bank in Trinidad!!. But that kinda thing happens sometimes...
probably because our technology isn't the most advanced

. You just have to exercise some patience, i guess... and pray it works.....

Hi girls! (Sorry Kate for calling you Karin earlier)..
Seems we are on the same track of forums - or are you 2 following me??
Thanks for your replies - I was a bit worried not to take t.cheques with me (just for the sake of security) but you convinced me that it is not necessary.
So I decide to live on the edge and rely on the fact that my maestro card will do the job.....do hope that I don't have to pray too much though.....

LOL - it looks like we're liming here as a substitute for the real thing...
No problem about calling me Karin, Arianne! Just thought I'd set the record straight
And it was interesting to see that you had exactly the same "problem" with the ATM's, Carla. Thanks!
