Hi
Can anyone help me with shipping to Tobago.
I am looking to ship my car to Tobago along with some furniture etc.
Any advice on taking my German Sherperd.
Thanks Chris

Hi Christine
I have no personal knowledge about shipping major items like a car over, but I know that people do. It might be worth checking old posts using the 'Search' facility at the top of the page, becuase I know there have been threads/posts about shipping in the past.
I don't think there's any particular problems about taking a dog over there, but you could have major grief/cost if you wanted to bring it back to the UK.

hi christine
sorry to tell you that what I found out about shipping was not too good. I moved to Tobago from Germany and the shipping companies told me that it is very expensive. to the US would be cheap, but after that they have to bring it on smaller ships that stop on every little island. these ships make it so expensive, because you have no other chance but use them.
it made me sell all my furniture and get started new and fresh over here.
if you find out something different please let me know, I still have some boxes over there....
for the dog I would check on the closest embassy of T&T and ask for their requirements.
wish you a good solution for your problems

Hi Christine
We have bought a property recently and will be shipping some furniture and goods down in early October (hopefully!).
There are plenty of good shipping agents who will send the container to Tobago via Trinidad. One which was mentioned is Rams Shipping in London. We were quoted between £1000.00 and £1400.00 for a container to Tobago. A lot of the 'Banana Boats' go back to Trinidad half empty, so call lots of shipping companies, they will point you in the right direction.
Also it all depends on the quality of the furniture that you want in Tobago and whether the cost of shipping will offset this. Trinidad does have everything that you need but it would take some time to source it all.
There is an import duty to pay on any new goods (20%) then the VAT on top. If goods are older than one year or used then there are reductions but you have to prove the age or that the items are used ( how it beats me?). Best to speak to an Import agent in Tobago who will give you all the information you need.
You will also need to have every item listed and valued with as many receipts as possible.
As for your dog, i really don't know, perhaps the animal protection league in Tobago or again the customs office may be able to help you.
Hope this has helped a little
