Is Tobago like all of the other Caribbean islands - lots of jewellery shops? Believe it or not, this is my husband's question because he wants to buy a watch!!
We had been thinking about going to Barbados again but I have always wanted to go to Tobago and now that I have found this wonderful site there's no contest. This has to be the best site on the web for information on an island and believe me, I have looked at them all. Keep up the good work, I'm about to click on the sponsored ads now!

Hello Rose

Welcome Aboard!

No, Tobago is NOT like other Caribbean island - although in this case I almost feel I'm apologising.

I've just refered to my trusty bible - the T&T Yellow Pages - and see that there are three retail jewellers listed in Scarborough. To be honest, even though I've now seen their addresses and know all the street concerned, I still can't visualise them. Suffice it to say that you husband may be dissapointed and have better choice choosing something in the duty free shop at Gatwick.

Now, that's not quite the answer you expected, is it? Mind you, if anybody knows different about the jewellers in Scarborough, please let us know.

one jewellery shop is scarborough uptown at the side of the republik bank parking spot (behind the ten-dollar store) and there is a next one in the turn to go uptown from downtown. there is a little mall between pizza boys and Shelas drugstore. can't figure out where the third one is at the moment. best you ask a taxi driver, they might know from dropping tourists there...

good treasure hunt

Hi Rose,
My wife collects jewellery so it's something we always look out for on holiday, apart from a few local gift shops that had jewellery made with silver or natural products like shells, stones, and seeds we saw very little, I don't even recall the airport duty free having much in the way of usual electrical goods, watches and gift shops, so I suspect your husband will be out of luck with a watch unless he takes Steves advise and get one at Gatwick.

Regards
Kevin

found the third one today, it is in the same corner going uptown, on the right of the ciao cafe, I thing there is a bakery and a shop for cloth, a little street going in and the next is a small jewellery shop....
now we got them all....

Thanks for all the info. it looks as though my husband is going to be out of luck! I am going to have to work hard on him to win him around to visiting Tobago. I don't think that will be too difficult as I've printed out much of what is written on this site for him to read. (He's not into computers in any way, shape or form). I'm hoping to visit in October and stay at the Grafton Beach - fingers crossed!

Hi Rose

Forget the watch - you can buy one anywhere in the world, from a fake Rolex in Singapore to a kosher Cartier on Rodeo Drive or a Timex in Tottenham.

Tobago isn't about duty-free fags or returning home, laden with cut-price goodies.

What you will bring home are memories of a beautiful island and kind, friendly people.
The best bit is, that once you're there, most of this is free.
Now that's what I call a bargain!

Only 4 weeks to go for me - The count-down has begun.

Cheers
Steve

.....but think of the fun that you'll be having - answering all those forum queries, whilst I'll be slaving over a hot fishing rod, with only a cold Carib or two to console me.

Cheers
Steve

PS only three weeks and six days to go.

Sorry, but it's not even going to be a warm Carib - they're still on strike aren't they (URGENT update needed by someone please). Maybe you'll have to take out your own supplies.

Never been before but like the fact that we'll have the choice between Carib and Stag.
