Hi everyone,

Thought just to let you know that I have been informed that Tobago will be the new holiday destination for the large Dutch tour operator OAD (je ziet ons ook overal...). Apparently they will have 14 pages Tobago in their new winter 2004 / 2005 holiday catalogue.

I don't know yet if I am pleased with this information. :? :? :?
What I do know is that I am glad I will go in October (2004) ... before the big Dutch rush...

what is wrong with the "dutch rush"?
what I always liked about toabgo is that it don't matter where you come from and the mix makes it interesting. I don't like to meet crowds of germans on my holidays as well (am german myself) but I feel its mixing good here!
isn't it nice to meet people from other countries? so far I experienced the dutch as nice travelers...am I wrong...?
thinking about a "stroop-waffels-for-steph-organisation" already...
have a great last dutch free trip...next time just come to castara. no hotels that might be in the book here....

What in the world's a stroop-waffel :?: If it's something edible (as i'm guessing) how does it taste?

it is two thin wafers with a kind of syrup in between tasting like caramel and honey. very sweet, but I could kill for it. always got them when we went to netherlands years ago. now the way is too far from tobago to netherlands (don't really have a common boarder, don't they...?!)

Hi Steph,

No offence taken!! I like kaas very much. Never thought that anyone could be so crazy about stroopwafels..hahaha :P :P   :P :P

About the Dutch rush, I just don't like to run into hundreds of Dutch tourists on my holiday. It is a bit double, on one hand I think it is good and beneficial for the Tobagionians (to earn money in the tourist business) on the other hand I'm afraid that unspoiled Tobago get's overrun, just like many of the other Caribean islands.

Did you know that there are stroopwafel crumbles as well?? Especially when they come out of my suitecase. But, I'll try to bring them over in one piece. Amazing how you can exactly described what the ingredients are!

PLEASE STOP TALKING ABOUT STROOPWAFELS. All the drooling is making a heck of a mess of my keyboard.

A new forum rule. Every time somebody mentions the word, they must send me a serving. I've never had them, but I LOVE waffles and I love honey, so I can just imagine how moorish they must be.

Hi Steph!
It must be hard work, lobbying to get stroopwaffels from around the world to Castara. You may need an assistant... :D

Consider this my formal application for internship to work with the stroopwaffels-for-steph-campaign :D Are there any benefits at entry-level? (payment will be accepted in the form of a stroopwaffel) You guys make this snack sound like the most delicious thing on earth, esp. the honey part. All i need to hear is the mention of anything sweet and i'm on board. Must taste this stroopwaffel!

- Your Sweet tooth in Crime,
Carla. :D

P.S.- Steve, looks like i owe you five stroopwaffels  , but unfortunately, i haven't been hired by Steph yet, so i may have to pay my debt in Carib or Stag.

to all the others, think we should not make it a too big venture, I might not be able to walk up any of the hills here, when I'm even fatter than now. we gotta keep it in control....

Arianne,

It's not only OAD (helaas) but WRC has also included Tobago in their fall brochure for the first time. And the big charter company Martinair will be flying to Tobago as of November 2004! Who else??? I don't know if I'm pleased or what to think either! I've also been planning to try to get back to Tobago (Castara) in October - before I even heard about "The big Dutch rush". If you follow Steph's advice about where to stay, I might just see you there :-)

Steph,

Carla doesn't need to worry about lobbying. If I do make it back, I'll bring you some stroopwaffels too! I believe I know where to find you (the house with absolutely the best location in Castara!) and that you just got back from Germany the last week that I was there. Let me know how many packs!

Greetings from Kaasland,
Kate

Welcome aboard Kate!

I don't know about the "great Dutch rush", but what about the great Austrian rush? Lauda Air will be flying to Tobago from Vienna from November.

Goodie, goodie - maybe I can persuade a kind Austrian visitor to bring me out some sachertorte while I'm there between January and March.

Blast, this keyboard is so wet I'm going to have to get another.

Steph,

seems you will be getting piles of stroopwafels! (how about your figure, or is Brain now getting some as well?).

Kate,

I also noticed that there are more Dutch tour operators having Tobago in their fall / winter brochure. Even more uncertain what to think of it.
Wouldn't it be nice if we would run into eachother when handing over stroopwafels to Steph. We aren't staying in Castara though; we stay in Sherwood, Carnbee.

Steve,

How about this! I will give Steph an additional pack of stroopwafels, especially for you and Jill. You can pick them up at her place and taste them for the first time in your life. Let me know if you like them!! Or even better, send me a photograph whilst eating them, than I can judge from the expression on your face if you really really like them!!!

Oops, Austria as well! I wonder if it all fits on that small island.....

That's a wonderfully kind offer and we would be delighted to post the photo here in the forum for all to witness, but there's one problem:

[Whisper] Can we trust Steph not to eat them before we get there? [end whisper]

oops again...I didn't think of that....

(whisper: Shall I wrap them in an unattractive piece of paper and tell Steph that this is a very important package for you. Maybe that's the best thing to do, since she admitted she can kill for stroopwafels and I don't want you and Jill to be exposed to any risk of course).

That sounds like a great idea. Trouble is, will they keep from October to mid-January?
