Hi,

A group of us are coming to Tobago in November. We would like to make contact with a Scottish Country Dancing Group in Tobago (if there is one?). Can you help?

Alternatively, are there any local groups of traditional dance we could visit?

Your help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Liz :D

Hi Liz

Welcome aboard!

Wow, that's certainly an original question. Given that the ex-pat community is only a few hundred strong, I doubt whether there are any dance groups of ANY sort. Hopefully somebody will know different and let us know.

All the hotels lay on regular entertainment during the high season and this invariably includes a lot of traditional dance. Sadly (from my personal point of view) this has increasingly moved away from Tobago's rich and unique Caribbean culture (Trinidad is the true home of steel pan and calypso) to more tenous ancient links with Africa. Maybe we should do the same in England. That way we could forget our links with Morris dancing and similar and hopefully adopt links with far more appealing Celtic or European traditional dance and costume.
