Restaurants visited in 09/2004

We, a couple aged 38 from Germany, visited Tobago for two weeks in September/October 2004. This was our second visit, and we used a printout of the restaurant section of myTobago.info as a very useful and reliable guideline for dining. In return we would like to share our impressions.
Me Shells: good food, but the "US-Steak with Red Wine Sauce" came with a kind of Hollandaise Sauce and - to me - seemed not to be US-imported, but local meat. When complaning about the sauce, they had a very strange excuse: Will have a new menu from the following week and prepare the meals already according to that menu. Service in general OK, but not as friendly as in 2003. My impression is that they use the same side dishes - all the time and for all the meals. Prices on the high side. Closed on Mondays
Ru-B-Lou's: consistently good and friendly. Closed on Tuesdays
Columbus Snackette: Local Snackette across from the Airport, just walk or drive straight when leaving the Terminal Building-loop and find it on the right side after the first crossing. Barbecue on Fridays. Looks somewhat strange, but is good and people are friendly
Mr. Fiddla's Picnic Cafe: was constantly closed during our visit, looked somewhat damaged from Hurricane Ivan
Cafe Petunia: Open Friday and Saturday for Dinner (mainly BBQ for 40 TT), Sunday only Brunch (11 am to 3 pm, 100 TT). Friday Live Entertainment, Saturday DJ, Sunday Jazz. We were there on a Friday, Petunia was singing, a band was playing Calypso, locals were singing along, very enjoyable evening!
La Terrazza: Food OK, but if you're used to "real" Italian Food, you will be disappointed. Friendly service and nice setting. Closed on Mondays
Cafe Coco: good and surprisingly cheap. But: if you use an American Express-Card, they will (try to) charge you in US-$, using a bad conversion rate (5.70), so better use Mastercard or Visa
Marcia's Diner: good food, service friendly (after getting "warmed-up"), try the cassava-pudding for dessert!
Mot Mot Cafe: Very good food and service, medium-priced (about same as Marcia's), big cocktail-selection. Definitely a recommendation. Sometimes closed on Sundays
Panache: was not open during our visit. No idea if this is permanant or not...
For specific questions please don't hesitate to ask!
Regards
Andreas
