Bijou des Caraibes consists of four self-catering apartments – one two-bedroom apartment, one one-bedroom apartment and two double bed studio apartments.
The air-conditioned self-contained apartments are simple, but comfortable. Guests enjoy shared use of the attractive swimming pool in truly beautiful gardens which are a riot of colour. Rates are highly attractive and start at US$50 per night for a single bedroom studio apartment, rising to $119 per night for the two-bedroom apartment. A full laundry service is available, at nominal charge, and two Suzuki jeeps can be hired by guests at very competitive rates.
Bijou des Caraibes is located high on Mount Irvine, overlooking the Mt. Irvine golf course and providing beautiful views of Buccoo Reef and the Caribbean Sea. Buccoo Beach is less than a five minute drive and Mt Irvine Bay Beach only marginally further. The location is absolutely ideal for touring every part of the island. Like most places, though, we would strongly recommend every visitor to hire a vehicle. You will miss an awful lot being grounded in one place or reliant upon taxis.
Bijou’s strongest feature by far, however, is Trinidadian owner Judith Gemmet. Swiss husband Yvon could not have provided Judy with a more appropriate name – she truly is a gem. Nothing is too much trouble. Never have I experienced a hostess so prepared to go that extra mile to ensure that her guests have a wonderful holiday. Woe betides the local taxi service that lets down one of her guests (as happened during our stay). Judy’s reputation preceded our visit and we were not disappointed. However, be warned – early booking is essential at Bijou Des Caraibes.
