myTobago – your questions, review and comment about Tobago

I have just been recommended this site http://www.1899.com where you can sign up for cheap telephone calls. The cost of calls to Tobago from a landline is 5p per minute plus a 3p connection charge and the same charge to mobiles.
Must be worth a try don't you think?

Sounds great, doesn't it? We already have details of the TeleDiscount service on our Telecommunications page. They offer calls at 7p. This 1899.com service seems better - apart from being cheaper, it's a more straightforward dialling process (you just add 1899 before 001-868 and the local Tobago number). You have to register first, but that was simple enough.

Thanks for letting us know. I've registered, but haven't tried it yet. If anyone has any problems with any of these discount services, please let us know.

TeleDiscount is now 8p to mobiles and uses a different number the number is given to you when you dial the mobile number.

Tried and tested today. There is no catch as some non believers have been trying to imply when spreading the word. As Steve said you must register and give credit card details. The next day you receive an account number and you're off. Calls to UK landlines are free.
You need to dial 1899 and without any pause the full code and number. After a few seconds for Tobago, a voice tells you "This call is 5 pence per minute". I had no problem with the connection and after finishing this call I then called my sister in High Wycombe hospital on a BT landline to a hospital phone costing 49 pence a minute. 40 miles away......Madness!

though I regulary call Tobago from Germany I use the German provider http://www.comnet-online.de. After I registered myself to it I pay 14 - 15 Cent (Euro) for a minute. This is not chep but the cheapest I could find.
If anyone knows anything better or cheaper, let me know to reduce my telephone bill

You may be interested to know - 1899 appear to have raised their charge to 7p per minute, plus the 3p per call connection charge, but still seems very good value. I've just registered and will give it a go soon.
