Security Issues - Virgin Carrying luggage for Excel?

We were passengers on the Virgin flight from Tobago which carried luggage for the Excel passengers. We didnt know that this had happened until we arrived back at Gatwick. I thought that you had to be on the plane which was carrying your luggage or is this not so?

For it to have been an unacceptable risk, there would have needed to have been an intended suicide bomber on the Excel flight.
Maybe, a real possibility on some scheduled international flights, on other routes — but a holiday charter from Tobago?
In any case (pardon the pun), the Excel luggage was probably crammed extremely tightly in the very back, economy, section of the hold in the Virgin plane.
I expect that we all face far greater risks in everyday life.

I bet the people killed in Bali thought that a holiday destination was very safe as well.
You may be correct about everyday threats but the fact remains that international flights are fair game for terrorists, especially ones laden with British nationals.
