Have any of you people out there on holiday (or indeed anyone having just returned) bothered to have any vaccinations before you went? I am finding some contradictary information especially concerning yellow fever injections. Probably the confusion arises depending whether you go to Trinidad or not? Any comments would be appreciated,

There are no particular vaccination requirements for Trinidad and Tobago, however it is always advisable to have your vaccinations updated when going to the tropics.

We always have our polio & Tetnus, however, we have never felt the need for Yellow Fever. I know it is on my doctors list of recommendations but after visiting Tobago I really do not think it is necessary and I personally have never had it , however, as I said it is personal choice and doctors do advise it.

We have just returned from 2 weeks in Tobago and my doctor originally recommended we had Hepatitis, on the grounds that the person/people preparing the food might pass it on and that it was a must for anywhere in the Caribbean. Having spent holidays every year in the Caribbean since 1995, we decided not to take the advice - and we are still here, alive, hale and hearty. However, we stayed at Coco Reef and always stay at the upmarket end of the hotel scale. I would not wish to insult any Caribbean residents who work in hotels/restaurants, but I would suggest that the top end might have better checks on hygiene than the lower end, so that depending on where you will be staying might determine whether you bother with jabs or not. We also tried to update our polio and tetanus having had them ten years ago, but if you are in the UK and have had them regularly every ten years, I was told that we no longer needed them (I am in my late forties). Hope this helps.

Thanks for your replies Tanja, Michelle & Miranda. I think we are up todate with tetanus, polio & hepatitis jabs so we should be OK. I'm pleased that it seems that we don't need the yellow fever one - I think they charge about £30 each for that (I'm a right scrooge really),
