Very informative website, well done!! We are going to Tobago in April for a week for my sister's wedding, then heading on to Grenada. We are staying at the Rex Turtle, have read the reports - good and bad! Will wait and see what its like for myself!

Im wondering if any coeliacs have experienced the food on the island?? Im thinking fresh fruit and rice and chicken should be okay. Unfortunately I dont eat fish so that will limit me!!! Someone mentioned fridge hire? While holidaying in Greece I found this useful for milk storage as I had brought GF cereal with me which I counted on when I couldnt eat sufficiently in the evening. Is there a need to bring some??

Id be grateful for any infomation ye can pass on - I can eat the basic meat/fruit/veg/rice/potato/corn/maize, once there are no sauces or gravies with them.

I am sure that you will be fine, if you inform the hotel before you go. We went to Antigua last year & I had already told the travel agent when I booked & they had informed the hotel, consequently they had special menus marked with all the foods that I could eat & there were plenty & always a good choice. Isn't it a pain, I used to love a hot crusty baguette!

You may be OK at the Rex. The buffet probably has flour everywhere and recent visits would suggest the soup is really flour glue in disguise.

We asked for some very plain food for our 10 mnth old and they obliged but supplied enough in one meal for the whole holiday so I'd guess that once they know about the problem they'll do their best to assist.

There have been a number of coeliacs asking for eating options recently and a few have tried some of the local food in Tobago and been quite happy. Stewed meats usually don't have flour, there's an item called coo coo that's like polenta (with a little more flavour) served with callaloo (spinach and okra like sauce with coconut milk), and several vegetable options that have no gluten in the prep. Shore Things cafe in Lambeau has a few items on the menu that work, salads and corn meal patties, they are still working on gluten free desserts.
