myTobago – your questions, review and comment about Tobago

Hello, as a first-timer on Tobago we´re curious if there is public transport like public taxis or buses between Scarborough and the north ( Charlotteville, Speyside, Anse Fourmi etc.)

Hi,

for Charlottevile and Speyside (passing Roxborough) , you can take the Maxitaxi for 10TT (prices of 2003 to Charlotteville) or the bus for 8TT.

Maxitaxi has no fixed timetable, but starts its tour when the driver thinks the taxi (=small bus) is sufficiently full. As far as the buses are concerned, I cannot remember exactly the numbers, but I think there are roughly 3-4 buses a day.

Anse Fourmi is a different route. Buses are maybe 8TT to Anse Fourmi. There are stops e.g in Mason Hall, Moriah, Castara, Parlatuvier. A bus every 2 hours, less during the weekends. All buses start at the central bus station in Scarborough.

It is also possible to stop "private taxis", but this is easier in the opposite direction back to Scarborough. In Scarborough you would have to know which of the passing cars will go to which place and you need to wave down your taxi out of the running traffic.

thank you Achim for the information. We will stay at Hamden Inn, southwest from Scarborough - are there any "stations" in the town where maxitaxis to Charlottville start?

Hi,

it is difficult to describe the location without having a map at hand and without knowing the street names. Central Scarborough has a lower part and an upper part. The central bus station is in the lower part. From there a quite steep road leads to the upper part, where e.g. a bank office and some shops can be found. On the left side from the steep road is a small square. Here the maxitaxis will wait.
