Panorama in Tobago promises to be more exciting than ever with a number of Tobago steelbands taking up the challenge from Pan Trinbago to use the option of playing a tune which was composed before 2005. Already in Trinidad a number of Trinidad steelband have chosen calypsos from yesteryear such as Baron's This Melody Sweet' and 'Tambu's Free Up'.
So far, a number of Tobago steelbands have gone back in time to revive some of the great calypsos of a previous era. Among the Tobago bands which have chosen the "back in time" route are Pan In the 21st Century Champions Black Rock Katzenjammers, who will be doing Short Shirt's 1979 monster hit "Tourist Leggo".
Pan Fanatics has selected Merchant's classic "Pan In Danger". While the pride of Scarborough Our Boys and Hope Pan Groovers have decided to go with Chris Tambu Herbert's Road March "Free Up".
Meanwhile, defending Tobago Pan champs RBTT Redemption Sound Setters and NLCB Buccooneers have chosen De Fosto's 2005 pan song "From Beyond". Also in the fray is Carib Dixieland and Tobago Panthers who have been swayed by Preacher's "Tobago Band". The Steno Jack-led Metro Stars is going into the panorama battle with Sherwin Winchester's "Dead or Alive". Mason Hall Dem Boys has chosen the Denyse Plummer sung "Woman is Boss".
Judging for the 2005 Panorama Preliminaries for the Single Pan Bands will be held at panyards in Tobago on January 15. Conventional steelbands will be judged on January 18.
Doe´s anybody know where the preliminaries happen and if they are a public thing where you can go and listen??
