I know that Tobago is a relatively laidback island, and not a hotbed for nightlife, but I'm planning a trip with a group of friends (mostly couples in our late-20s to late-30s) and, while our main objective is to relax and enjoy the island during the day, we were looking for a nice hotel to stay at with some sort of nightlife, or at least something close by. We're not at all looking for late-night dance clubs, but a little bit of energy, maybe an outdoor bar or lounge and some live entertainment/music. Somewhere where we can have some drinks, socialize with and meet people, and hang-out and relax. I'sd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

Hi Jason.
Tobago now has several good bars/clubs plus Sunday School in Buccoo (guess the night?), and in my opinion (based on a "lads" holiday in 2001 and several visits since) a strange unofficial cartel seems to operate whereby they each agree to take turns to throw a special do one night each week, to share around the relatively few party-seekers/tourists. This means that it is possible to try a different venue every night and enjoy a fun, friendly evening with plenty of good dance music etc. I recommend bakers Talent night at Golden Star on Wed night, followed by the disco - a complete hoot, you sit and drink while watching Baker's crazy talent show (with some good artists), then party. The Green Light is a good outdoor dance venue, I think Friday (or Sat?) was good but someone could correct me. A recent pub to open was the Pelican Reef which has live music. There are various others dotted around the South West (Crown Point) area including the laid back Copra Tray, plus Bar Code in Scarborough (good sports bar), etc etc. I would not look to the upmarket hotels for any wild nights, but get out and about and you can party every night. A group such as yours will meet with a friendly reception from locals of both sexes, some out to make money from tourists through extra services but the majority genuine, warm and welcoming dancers. Have fun,

Thank you Glyn. That sounds great. We'll be sure to check some of those out. Most of group will be couples, so I think it's more about finding a lively venue or interesting atmosphere where we can have some fun and maybe meet some other tourists and locals, as opposed to just going to hang out in someone's hotel room after dinner! From the sounds of it, I guess Sunday School is something we should check out for sure right?

Sunday School is an absolute must - an open air street party in Buccoo village that gets going around 11pm then all night. I recommend getting a taxi there (prebook the return leg for the early hours, or if not then there are plenty of locals looking to drive you to your hotel for a few dollars - just make sure they are sober and you stick together, although it is generally very safe there). If you want then you could get to Buccoo earlier to eat - the street food is excellent (try corn soup). Either lime (means "hang out") in the main party area, a covered beach facility with toilets etc, where you can buy beer etc, or alternate with Hendrix Bar - a dancehall with excellent laid back atmospehere and people of all ages, locals and tourists alike. All the food and drink is really cheap by our standards, and entry to the main party is free, Hendrix just tt$20 (£2), with exit and reentry permitted all night by hand stamp. There is some seating out front where you can watch the world go by and shelter from occasional rain! Don't plan anything too strenous for Monday - chill out on Englishmans Bay beach, for instance, to recharge your batteries. I shall be quitting the land of my birth (UK) and its weather to live in Tonago from May, so email me nearer the time if you want any last minute advice or need some help with anything:
