We are travelling to Tobago later this month for the 2nd time and are flying with Virgin this time.
When we were last there three years ago we flew by Monarch and the flight was only half full, lots of spare seats.
Has anybody flown with Virgin recently and was the flight full?
We are very much looking forward to our visit to Tobago again.

We flew Virgin on 14th March, going out and coming back there were some spare seats in economy.

We are going to tobago in MAY and are toying with travelling either excel or virgin, as we are travelling with our 6 yr old.
Any comments or thoughts on both airlines would be appreciated, is it worth spending the extra ££ to fly Virgin?

Virgin are good and get you there fast.
Excel are cheaper but you get what you pay for ... it is not as comfortable in their economy class because, basically, their flights take longer to get there and back.
So ... speed v. comfort ... try Excel Premium Economy where you get the upgrade to leather seats, more leg space and quick check-in.
If speed is of the essence, Virgin Economy is about the same price as Excel Premium Economy but with less comfort.
The other thing that I like about Excel, although this does not apply to you, is that you do not have to pay the full price of the flights up front when booking a long time in advance.

I've just received my flight tickets for Excel Premium Economy and the benefits stated are :-
Separate check in desk
Use of Fast Track route through Central Search at Gatwick
Separate cabin for just 28 passengers (seating is 2 3 2 across cabin)
28 leather seats with minimum 34" to 37" pitch, pillow and blanket
Pre take-off drinks including chapagne & bucks fizz
Complimentary drinks thoughtout the flight, excluding champagne
Three course meal with choice of entree
Own audio channe and in-flight entertainment
Individual hand held DVD player with choice of films (on request)
Complimentary headsets, magazines, newspapers and amenity kit
Pre-bookable childrens meals, kiddies packs
Priority boarding, disembarkation and baggage collection
40kgs baggage allowance.
Whether we actually get these items is a different matter - we didn't get them all last time !

Flew back Monday night (11th) with Virgin and the flight was packed. It is probably not representative as it coincided with the end of the Easter school break. It was also quite a noisy flight with lots of familes on the flight with young restless children.

Our flights out and back on 4th and 18th April were both packed with lots of noisy children. Not much any airline can do about that. However, we'd never flown with Virgin before and found them to be very good. The meals, entertainment and flights were better than anything I'd been on before.
Especially good was the check-out service at the Coco Reef where Virgin come to hotel, check your baggage and give you your boarding card so that you spend as little time at Crown Point airport as possible.
We'd certainly fly with them again if the opporunity arose.

Virgin have a sale on at the moment which finishes on Tues for flights from end of August to end November.
Looking forward to the 8th Sept, just hope my son keeps himself in 1 piece till then
