Will be staying at a villa in Bacolet this May, i understand theres not to much there so would a car hire be advantage to us or would taxis be a more cost effective way to get around?
Will need to go food shopping visiting restaurants and the most important sight seeing. Also what is the must places things to visit for the 1st time visitors???

No question, Mandy - hire a car. It's the ONLY way to get the best out of Tobago. See our articles in Tobago/Getting About. With a car, you'll be able to see EVERYTHING on the island - so simply see our Out & About articles for idea.

Hi Steve,

if "ONLY" had been written in lower case, I wouldn't have answered.

Alhough it may not apply to everyone:

I was able "to get the best out of Tobago" by using the local bus and taxi system, bicycles, hitchhiking and my own feet and I cannot remember to have missed a location due to my chosen means of transportation :)

Hi Achim

You are so right. I was trying to stress the importance of having transport to get out and about. I do not really include private taxis in that group because the cost, if you are getting out and about as much as anyone would surely want to, would be prohibitive. However, with the exception of private taxis, ANY other form of transport would be better than none at all.
