charging batteries

maybe a stupid question , but can you charge batteries (digital camera) with a regular 220-240v eurpean charger on het 110v tobagon net? or does it just take more time?

Hi V.
You need a dual voltage charger 110 to 240v Have a look at the spec on the back of the charger many phone, camera and laptop chargers cover 110 to 240v as standard.

Of course you still need an adaptor to convert between the different plug shapes. But those are cheap.

I would take disposable batteries (or buy them when you get there) as back up.
My Camcorder, Laptop, PDA, Mobile Phone all charged OK but my Digital Camera didn't for some reason and I had to resort to disposables.

not about charging, but CD palyers don't work with the cord unless it is a player that can work with bothe (220/110). radios might do it. batteries are available in the supermarkets.

It´s not all about the voltage, what many doesn´t remember is the frequency. I Europe we has 50Hz but & TT has 60Hz.
It´s not enought to check the voltage, also check if it´s working for 50/60Hz.

Now it's getting really complicated. I'm thinking about buying the new Pentax digital camera wich you can use under water just to 1,5 m, to use while snorkeling. It looks like the perfect thing for Tobago but when I can't charge it's battery there I wouldn't buy it now, or at all, so I'll try to get the information from the company.
Or has anybody recent positive experiences with charging European digital camera's there?

Don't worry about it V. I've just checked the charger block of nine different pieces of camera/computer equipment of American. European and far Eastern manufacture. They are all 110-240v 50-60Hz. As I understand it, ALL decent modern appliances are made to copy with all standard international voltages and frequencies. I would be totally amazed if a piece of kit from Pentax doesn't do the same. Speak to your local camera shop - I'm sure they'll set your mind at rest.

My Canon digital SLR camera comes with a special battery and external battery charger, which worked fine in Tobago.
My experience is that most modern electronics products are designed to work worldwide. It's just as cheap for the company to make one that works everywhere, and anyway, people wouldn't want to buy one that didn't. Of course, I can't guarantee it for your particular model, but I would expect it to work.

Hi V,
I've just checked all my Sony, camera and laptop, Motorola Phone and Ipaq the are all dual voltage.
The only stuff I could find that was only 240V was a 5 year old portable CD that I forgot I had (its now in the bin)
Dont worry about the 50/60hz piece most ships are 60hz and ive been taking my electronic bits away for years and never had a problem.
