 Hi there,
Can anyone tell me if there are places to buy musical instruments on Tobago. I am specifically looking for a (set of) conga(s). What is the best place to go??
Cheerio!

I seem to remember that there was a guy or business making and selling African Drums in Plymouth, called "Afrilon Drums".

You're quite right, Steve - last left before you leave Plymouth before Arnos Vale. There's also another place in Black Rock - down on the road to Fort Bennet. But I don't know whether either do congas.

Steve F is right about the name ... it is engraved on the side of an African Drum I bought there 2 years ago.

Steve W is right about the place ... when you take the left turn it is immediately on the left ... not always open though.

Good quality, a showroom of his handmade works and he is prepared to 'do a good deal'.

Yes, be aware that this is not a retail outlet or factory making highly polished fibreglass / wood & chrome fitting style Tumbas as far as I am aware - they are more traditional and locally made African drums as I recall.

The place Steve W mentioned is easily accessable from the Rex Turtle Beach hotel where I see you're staying.

Just step on to the beach and turn left. A 10-15 minute walk along the beach will bring you to the steps at black rock that take you up onto the road and the fort. The drum shop is on the left hand side virtually at the top of the steps if I remember correctly.

You remember exactly right, Dave - why didn't I think of that?

You were probably thinking of the (im)practicality of lugging a set of drums back down the beach after a purchase :)

Yes Dave ... try getting a set of them in your suitcase !!
