Just Dropping By for Lunch in Bonkers

Just seen Steve's review which has prompted me to elaborate a little on the food.
My family and I called into the Toucan Inn to eat in the Bonkers Bar during our holiday.
In fact, I made a point of calling in because we had nearly stayed here once when we first considered visiting Tobago and I just wanted to see what we missed.
Our first meal there was really nice for lunch and we went back a second time. It is an ideal spot to visit for lunch instead of getting involved in the hustle and bustle around Store Bay. Bonkers Bar was very relaxing.
The first greeting is from Bonkers, the Parrot who says 'hello' ... and actually waves at you with his claw
... and Toco the Toucan who just hops about. I had the sense that Bonkers got a little jealous when Toco got too much attention ... he started doing some pretty neat dance moves
to get the attention back.
The place looked generally very cosy too, not that we stayed there ... we just got the impression it was nice and I guess the swimming pool right in the middle enhances that impression.
The staff ... yeah, I think we all agree that even Bruce Forsythe would be lost for words if he ordered a meal in Bonkers for the first time, they would not liven up a funeral ... but on my second visit I was ready for the cold reception and cracked a few jokes about their Rum Punch and ... well ... they laughed alot.
The Food ... my wife loved the Chilli-con-Carne (albeit it, nice and ... erm
hot ... note this spice lovers) and the kids liked the burgers ... I disliked the burgers and preferred the chicken ... but overall good food and, yes, I agree the menu could be a little more diversified for the benefit of those that reside on AI ... but fine for visitors which is the main point about this post.
The Drinks ... The RUM !!!! ... Oh Lordy, the RUM PUNCH ... it was a 'punch' alright ... so strong that I asked for fruit juice to water it down ... the waitress was confused, so I explained that if she wanted me to walk out without assistance it would be helpful to dilute the Rum Punch a bit.
That's where the laughs started ... the staff were really quite lovely.
TOP TIP : Drop in for lunch after a gruelling morning of sunbathing on Store Bay Beach ... and try to look cheerful, it works both ways
Regards
