Pelican Walk, Roxburgh

Renting a 'normal' car in Tobago can be a pain because the petrol tanks are so small.

So you have to plan each day around a visit to the petrol station.

We got caught one day and became very dependent on the (empty) petrol station in Roxburgh and needed to hang around for a while until the tanker delivered the petrol.

It was about 3 hours.

So ... what do you do ... explore Roxburgh?

Anyone that has visited Roxburgh will know that the beach is covered with litter and the town is not what you would keep at the top your 'Go Visit' list. Roxburgh would look pretty dreadful to any tourist and most, as we saw, just drove straight through.

We were wary ... and hungry ... with no petrol.

And then we saw the Pelican Walk Restaurant ... about 100 metres down on the right past the petrol station as you are travelling towards Speyside.

If the petrol tank was full we would have never stopped there but our hunger drove us to take risks.

We got off to a bad start when I found out that there was no Rum left after a party the night before so settled for a Carib ...

The food was sublime with an absolutely lovely Macaroni Pie.

30tt each ... less than £3 ($1.80US) and the service came with a big SMILE ... :D

Roxburgh is not exactly the best looking place in the world but I have learned from this experience ... don't take it for it's looks !!

We finished up having a lovely lunch and a chat with some of the shopkeepers ... it is a NICE place and I will call into the Pelican Walk again even if I have a full tank of petrol.
