Only one litre per adult, I'm afraid. (I found this by searching for "customs allowances" at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/ ).

Hi Linda,

I guess some people are just lucky! You must have an innocent (and sober) 8) face!!!

When we came back from Tobago via Trinidad (and an unscheduled overnight in Antigua), it did not help that all the Heathrow arrivals boards plus the good ladies, gentlemen and sniffer dogs of Customs and Excise thought we had come from Kingston, Jamaica. Hence, loads of people were stopped and searched and/or questionned! We were rather glad that we had not tried to buck the system this time!

Hi Jane,
Don't take it personally the sniffer dogs are a pretty common site now on lots of flights from the Caribbean. Customs are certainly not after the odd extra bottle of rum from duty free.

The last time I came through and declared a couple of extra bottles, I got the impression that I was holding them up from something much more important and they would rather I'd gone through green gate. All I got was a smile and waved on.

Regards
Kevin

Hi Kevin,

We weren't worried by the sniffer dogs - they are extremely friendly! I have to say that the presence of so many Customs personnel was a bit intimidating. Even though we weren't over any of the limits - the way they look at you makes you feel guilty!!

thats the feeling I always have... and thats what always makes them check my bags. already stopped traveling with backpacks... did not help. I would never dare to go over the allowance. I would have a tomato red face, they would always find me (not so alibaba)....

As regards the snifferdogs, when I returned earlier this year this beautiful little cocker spaniel went absolutely crazy over one of my bags!!!I was duly taken aside and the bag was opened and searched-no drugs or anything nasty-just 6 coco balls!!The handler said that chocolate was the dog's treat so no wonder it was excited.
Nearing the 200 mark,
David :)

Hi

I've just picked up this thread but I'd like to know how much duty free is allowed INTO Tobago as I've seen contradictory reports - help please!

David, I really laughed at the cocker spaniel going crazy for your coco balls!!

Hi Gill M,According to http://www.tobagowi.com the allowance is 200 cigarettes and 1 litre of wine or spirits.
As for the cocoballs, the guy's eyes opened wide with anticipation when he realised I had come from the Caribean!Hemust have thought his luck was in!

Thanks for that info David. I've read somewhere that you can take 3 "opened" bottles of wine in but as I want to take champagne for a special occassion it would be a bit flat!

Still giggling about those cocoballs and the spaniel.

Question about that, what does ciggarets cost in tobago?

Just keep ur face and smile when walking past customs with a couple liters to much :P.

But yeah its nice to see all the dogs at airports this days, its good to know they do their best to keep the nasty stuff away from our streets!

Cigarettes are about $TT2 each if bought singly at a bar and I think $TT35 for twenty.
David(non-smoker with ten weeks to go) :D
