Wedding paperwork

Hi there

I'm getting married in Tobago next year and was wondering if anyone could tell me about the British side of the paperwork.... do I need to register in the UK (either before or after) I go out to Tobago? I've rung my local registry office and they weren't too sure about whether I would need a certificate from here or not.

I'd be grateful if anyone could let me know how the process works...
Many thanks
Cathy

Cathy,

We got married at the Coco Reef in April and it was all very straightforward. The wedding and holiday were booked through Virgin who required copies of birth certificates, passports and divorce papers about three months before we went. I phoned Virgin to confirm receipt and they didn't require us to do anything else as the paperwork was in order.

Once on the island we had to go to the local government office in Scarborough a few days before the wedding so that they could check the above documentation and issue us with the wedding licence. Again, no problem amd only took about twenty minutes.

At the wedding we signed the certificates which then take five or six weeks to reach the UK (ours is due any time now). As Virgin customers we even received a mock certificate 'from' Richard Branson a day or two after the wedding!

Hope this helps and good luck.

Dave

Just to reiterate what Dave has said, really. We didn't have to show anyone anything official before we set off for Tobago (we didn't book through a big tour operator, though) - when we got to Tobago we had to go down to the registry office with all the documentation that Dave lists, as well as our plane tickets and name change certification (not that we had any, but it was required if you had). In short, no, you don't need to register anything in the UK.

The certificates we had (we were given them on the day - that has obviously changed) are beautiful :)

How exciting for you. Where are you staying? Where are you actually getting married?

Hi there

Thank you both for your replies... and great to hear that the process is straight forward...

I'm going to be getting married at the Arnos Vale next February & Marie Dilworth is going to be taking care of the wedding arrangements so I am sure it will all be wonderful. I know its quite a way off yet but I really can't wait - I've read such posative reports about getting married in Tobago.

Thanks again

Cathy

Hi Cathy

You're in great hands with Marie and rest assured that she would have told you had you needed to arrange anything.

Hi Cathy,

Just a quick update to my post. Our wedding certificate arrived on Friday, six and a half weeks after the wedding. Just like they said it would.
