great website by the way!...

My girlfriend & I are lucky enough to be staying at Castara Retreats in Castara in a couple of weeks time... and being a keen fisherman, I am looking for some advice on fishing from the beach/rocks

can anyone be good enough to lend some advice on good spots to fish near to where I'm staying?.. and more importantly what kind of bait and lures/spoons/spinners and type of tackle I should use/bring with me.....??

many thanks...

Paul

Hi Paul

Welcome aboard!

You're in for a treat at Castara Retreats.

I'm sure our resident fishing guru, Steve Pitts, will be delighted to offer some more specific advice when he sees your post, but in the meantime may I direct you to our fishing article, available from the Out & About/Activities menu. The final page (FAQ) has some useful comments from Steve which will answer your questions about bait, lures and tackle.

Hi Paul

I posted a reply on 31st March to a 'Diving and fishing in Castara' query.
Just scroll down the list of posts and you should find my answer.

Castara beach itself can be good, as can Englishman's bay.

If you're going to be doing any bait fishing, then a fillet of fish or fish head and guts will be good for rays and sharks off the beach, - particularily after dark - if you can bear the onslaught from the sandflies.

As I mention in the FAQs section, dawn and dusk will offer the best chance of tarpon, jacks and snook (fly or plugs), with broad daylight offering houndfish, barracuda and ladyfish on ABU Toby spoons.

Have a good look through the fishing pages and get back to me if you have any burning questions.

Cheers
Steve
