myTobago – your questions, review and comment about Tobago

I'm starting to get a bit concerned about taking my wedding dress on the plane. I gather that if I take it in its carrier I'll be made to check it in with our cases. But, I'm worried in case it gets lost. Whilst I can just about manage without shorts and t shirts for a few days, my wedding dress I really cannot afford to end up being jetted off to Grenada or some other place not in Tobago and not there for my wedding day.

So, what have other brides done? Is there any way of being able to take it in the cabin of the plane? Has anyone successfully managed to fold a dress into hand luggage?

Any tips would be really appreciated. I suppose I should ask at this stage also how the guys have gone on with their own wedding attire?! Not quite such a crucial point for me but my fiance might be interested!!

The big day is getting nearer, you must be getting so excited. The information on the WEDDING section of this site suggests that you carry your dress as special hand luggage and hopefully an attendant can hang it up somewhere safe for you ! Good luck

We just got married in April. My wife carried on her dress and hung it in closet the first leg of our trip. But, what actually worked out better was lying the dress flat on top of luggage in the over head. Everyone on board was really good, recognizing that it was a wedding dress and being quite gentle with it.

Thank you both. I AM getting very excited - 9 weeks and 2 days to go! We've just bought a bottle of 'pina colada' (£1.99 at Morrison's, nothing like the real thing but it's a start!) to get us in the mood!

I'm not sure where you will have your ceremony, but I recently got married at the Coco Reef Resort on May 7, 2005. I traveled all the way from NY and did not feel like carrying my rather large dress with me in a garment bag. I decided to dedicate a large bag to check onto the plane instead. This is a big risk...I know. But I felt better knowing that I had a direct flight to Trinidad and then a brief flight to Tobago. Was it wrinkled? Well the body of the dress turned out fine, on the day of my wedding I booked a room for the day only and had the staff iron out the train of my gown. They did a wonderful job and everything turned out perfect! I'll be happy to share my pictures as soon as I get them!

If you choose not to do what I did, then I really recommend that you carry it in the garment bag that comes with the dress and let the flight attendant hang it for you right by the exit. Hope all goes well!

We just got back from our wedding and honeymoon at the Grafton Beach Resort in Tobago. What a fantastic time we had and the wedding was just like a fairytale! I managed to fold my dress into a small hard bodied suitcase, quite a feat as it had a seven layered skirt! It went onto the plane with all the other baggage and it was perfect when we finally unpacked. Good luck with your wedding, if it is half as good as ours was it will be beautiful! I didn't take my dress as hand luggage, the case was a little bit too big. We flew with Excel Airlines and they told me that it had to go in with all the rest of the baggage. It was fine in the hold ao if you have to do that don't worry!
