Tobago Currency

I am travelling to Tobago in August to stay at the Grafton Hotel.

What are the rules on taking local currency out of the country?
I have read on a different Tobago website that there is a limit of TT$200.
Is this correct ?

‘’Currency restrictions: The import of local currency is unlimited, provided declared on arrival. The export of local currency is limited to TT$200. There is free import of foreign currency, subject to declaration. The export of foreign currency is limited to the amount declared on entry.’’

I don’t intend to bring a lot back but this seems a very small amount.
Or have I read this wrongly?

Your comments on this would be appreciated.

John

PS .Very useful and informative website.

Hi John

Welcome aboard!

Yes, I believe that there is technically a restriction of TT$200, but I shouldn't worry about it too much.

I've been in Tobago some 15 times now, I'm here right now, and I mostly always have some 2-300TT with me when I go back home. It's nice to have some cash next time I come so I can pay the taxi without going to the ATM.
I have never seen the Security checking the amount of money into peoples wallet, never mind if they are local or not.

I have never been told that you can only bring $200tt out of the country. I couldn't spend all my money and have about $2000tt left over
