Hilton Resort?

We are a family with one 9 year old girl. We have looked at your reviews of resorts, etc., and are booking at the Hilton due to the kids club for her activities. I see that you note we'll be destined to dine within the establishment only - should we look elsewhere? We do want to walk the beach but swim in the pool, I like to shop but we could take a day trip. Should we stay at the Hilton? Thanks for anyone's help - we are spending about $7k on the trip so reassurance would be nice. JB

Hello Joanne
Welcome aboard!
I assume that when you say "we'll be destined to dine within the establishment only" you mean that there are no other restaurants within walking distance. We this is true (although there is the golf club restaurant, Rouselles, which has started to open some evenng I believe) but it is also largely true for every other hotel on the island, with a few exception in Crown Point. At the Hilton, every major popular hotel will be within a 10-minute or so taxi drive, so no big deal. Don't worry - the hotel don't chain you to the hotel - you are allowed out.
The Hilton beach is arguably the best 'walking' beach on the island. You are almost spoiled for choice with three pools - but be warned that they are leisure pools for splashing about in and cooling off, rather than 'swimmers' pools. If you're thinking of pools for excercise, then the Mt.Irvine Bay Hotel is your best bet.
I regret that you can forget about shopping. This is most certainly NOT one of Tobago's strengths (and long may it remain so).
I don't know if I've given any reassurance, but the truth is that only you know what you hope for/expect from a hotel. The Hilton is a good hotel, but it will not be to everyone's taste - but neither will be any other hotel on Tobago or anywhere else.
