Tamboo bamboo music CD?

Does anyone know how I can get hold of CDs of Tamboo [or Tambu] Bamboo Music?
When we were in Charlottville this January we heard the village band practising before carnival - they were wonderful, and subsequently went on to win their class in Trinidad. Stupidly I didn't buy any CDs of this music while in Tobago, and I've been unable to find any on sale in the UK, USA or Australia despite scouring the web and various World Music sources since.

Can anyone help, please?

Hi Mark

Judging by the silence either someone going near there can get you one, or you're just going to have to go back yourself.... not such a bad thing 8)

Hi,

I found the following on

http://www.rhythmics.ch/tamboo-bamboo.html

1. One track (Nr. 27) on CD
Rounder 11661-1721-2: Alan Lomax Collection:
Caribbean Voyage: Caribbean Sampler

2. Three tracks on CD (or LP )

Cook 5017: Bamboo-Tamboo, Bongo & the Belair

recorded in the hills of Trinidad...

3. Some further information:

4. All steelbands

5. "East Stars" from Charlotteville mentioned here:

http://www.seetobago.com/trinidad/pan/zntdsbds.htm

6. CD "Caribbean Sound Evolution": one track is called "Tamboo Bamboo"

7. The Caribbean Voyage: Trinidad, The 1962 Field Recordings
At least two tracks with a band "Tamboo Bamboo Band"

Amazon customer says: A very different, but entertaining collection.

I think 1., 2. and 7. fit and the CDs are also available.

Many thanks!

That's excellent - a couple of these are available via Rounder Records in Europe, and I've just placed an order.

I'll certainly be back to Tobago and will get some more discs then, but at least we'll now be reminded of hot nights in Charlotteville even when it's freezing here in Europe...

[Incidentally, the nearest sound I'd found to the Charlotteville Tambu Bamboo Band that's widely available is the drum backing on 'The Obvious Child', the opening track on Paul Simon's 'Rhythm of the Saints'. This is by a Brazilian group called 'Grupo Cultural Olodum']
