Can someone suggest to me the best way of getting from the airport to Charlotteville? I've heard buses are not ideal and that taxis may be expensive. Any ideas? Thanks

In fact you're right, busses are not ideal to go up to Charlotteville, there is no schedule, they are supposed to go a few times a day from Scarborough but please don't ask the times, they change all the time and as I said, there is no "official" time table available The best really is to take a taxi (especially after a long flight), the cost with an airport taxi is US 50 one way, the drive takes about 1.5 hours. The BEST way to go is to negotiate with a private driver-they are endemic in Tobago. Taxis have an H in front of their plate-and for this they charge the earth. A private car can be hired for 50-75% of the Taxi price depending on your bargaining skills. How is it done? Leave the Airport grounds, cross the road and strike up a conversation wit the first vehicle owner you see. No need to feel for the Taxi drivers-their monopoly keeps them well-fed-there are no skinny undernourished Taxi drivers on Tobago. All Tobagoans travel via the unofficial private cab system-you should too-expect to share the vehicle. Also-NEVER pay for anything in US dollars-refuse to business with anyone who quotes you prices in US dollars-it's a ripoff nothing less!
Ripoff or not?

Well - US$ 40-50 may seem awfully expensive, but I feel that's a fair price for being fetched by one of my 'friends' from Speyside at the airport after a very long flight.
For my latest trip for Tobago, I left home at 5:30 in the morning (Copenhagen/Denmark) and arrived late in the afternoon at Crown Point (about 17:30 Tobago-time). After that long trip I found it nice to meet a friendly/known face amongst the hordes (sp?) of drivers looking for customers, and hence I'll prefer to pay that little bit extra...
Kind regards,
Allan
