myTobago – your questions, review and comment about Tobago

I've been lurking on this site for months now--it's a fantastic resource. I may have overlooked something, but I've yet to find an answer to these questions:

We'll be flying in to Piarco fairly late at night (8:40), and don't hold out any hope of getting on another flight to Tobago that night. From what I've read, both Leo's place and Sadila house are good bets for an overnight stay close by.

My first question is, are there any restaurants near to either place, and are they open late enough on a weeknight (tuesday)? Someone mentioned a Kentucky Fried Chicken--that would be the restaurant of last resort for us. Inexpensive and informal are great--just not US fast food.

Second question: we're going to have to do the same kind of thing coming back home, but our flight out is EARLY (6 a.m.!). I know both places will drive us to and from the airport, but are they willing to do it at such an early hour? Should we make other arrangements?

You are welcome to lurk as much as you like, but I'm delighted that you've decided to "come out".

I know that we try to restrict this site to information about Tobago, but I think that overnight accommodation/dining is relevant and pertinent enough to demand its own section in the "Tobago/Getting There" section. To be honest, its nearly 20 years since I've been over to Trinidad so I can't comment from personal experience - except to say that the Piarco airport hotel was bad even back in the late '50s when I first used it. Anyway, over coming months I'll try and collate information for our North American cousins and others who are coming in via Trinidad.

As far as eating is concerned, hopefully somebody with personal experience can reply. Please, everyone, post as much info as possible because I will then use that as the basis of a permanent section in the Getting There section.

As far as the early morning transfer, I would email the accommodation and ask them, rather than assume anything. As its the return, you'll have enough time to arrange it once you arrive there.

We too arrived at 8:40PM & stayed at Leo's Place. We had gotten enough food on the plane so that we weren't hungary that night. We caught a late afternoon flight back to Trinidad on the return. Leo's house is in a residential neighborhood, so there's no restaurants around. We gave Leo $5 and he took us over to the Trincity Mall, which is a few miles away. You wouldn't want to try to walk, as the highway is very busy. We ate in a restaurant (Tex_Mex, if you can believe it!!) that was very good, just off the food court. There's also lots of variety of food at the food court. We arranged a time & a place for Leo to pick us up & he was right on time. He's a very consciencious person. There's a website for the Trincity Mall (do a google search) so you can see all that's there. It's a huge mall!! Please feel free to email me if you want more info.

My wife and I did the Trinidad to Tobago thing a year ago and we stayed at the Chateau Guillaumme in Trinidad. It worked out great for us. They picked us up and even took us to a Chinese restaurant close by. It doesn't matter what time you need to be at the airport, they will get you there. I can't say enough nice things about this place or their owners and I think we paid about $40 a night.

Anyway, it's good to see another Virginian on the sight.
