I was so relieved when I stumbled on this website today coz as far as I know, no-where else on the net provides the same info - especially on weddings.
After booking my wedding at the beginning of the year with Virgin, I feel like I'm walking into this wedding slightly blind! I don't have a clue whether we'll be getting married on the beach, in a garden or up a palm tree. We're getting wed at Coco Reef - can you choose the location??? What are the vows like???
I was also happy to read on this site that even though we are going in November, this doesn't mean to say that the island will be a wash-out and I won't have to take a rubber ring to the ceremony. I was quite depressed at other sites being doom and gloom about the rainy season.
Anyway, I wouldn't change my wedding destination for the world and am really getting excited about going now.
Anyone who wants to reply, please do. Also, does anyone know about how to get to the rainforest???

Hi Lucy
Welcome aboard!
The first thing to do is to read our Wedding article in the Odds & Sodsmenu, above.
When you use a resort's own wedding co-ordinator, you are normally (always???) restricted to a venue within the resort's grounds. At the Coco Reef I believe you have a choice of various garden locations, the beach or even on the sea wall surrounding the hotel's lagoon. However, be warned that breezy conditions can make the sea wall and beach less attractive than they might otherwise be. I don't know about the Virgin weddings, but suspect that being a package deal you'll probably have the least choice. For total flexibility, you should use someone like Marie Daines at Tobago Wedding (
http://www.TobagoWeddings.com ), the island's premier wedding planner.
All of the main tour operators run tours to the rainforest. Avoid arranging anything through your tour operator - you'll be crammed into a large party on a hot bus. All the decent tour operators run tours with just a handful of people, often for much less cost that you'll pay the package holiday rep. We recommend
Yes Tourism for all general sightseeing tours.

Hi Lucy,
We were married at the Coco Reef on 11 April this year and had the most basic Virgin wedding package. Once at the resort they completely look after you. A few days before the wedding we were shown all possible locations for the ceremony and chose the gardens overlooking the beach. We had a choice of wedding cake (chocolate to be different) and they put up an arch covered with flowers.
The admin side was completed in Scarborough three days before the wedding. The Coco Reef organised a taxi to the office there. Again, we were in and out in half an hour.
Coco Reef arrange the minister and also a photographer (although not part of the package our guests paid for one as a present). Finally, a special table was ours in the evening in the restaurant. They could not have done more for us.
The whole point of getting married there is to relax. I was in the sea 45 minutes before and having a Stag 15 minutes before!
My wife was admirably taken care of by the hairdresser in Coco Cuts. Everything went without a hitch and the certificate turned up about seven weeks later.
Don't worry, you'll have a great day!
Dave
Thankyou!

Hi,
Thanks Steve and Dave for your advice....I think I really should start learning to relax now! Am getting very excited, especially as I haven't been abroad since I was 2 years old!! Not sure whether I'm more excited about the holiday or the wedding!
Just another quick question, I read the guide on what to pack and was disappointed that I should take my short skirts etc out of the suitcase. Is this really the case in Tobago?? I prefer dressing respectably as a rule but I thought with being on a hot beach it would be more sensible to have bikinis and a couple of short items.
What do you think??
Should I now go and buy some knee length skirts??

Hi,
We arrive in Tobago in the afternoon of the 17th so I guess we will cross paths and if you do see us, you'll have to tell us how the big day went!!! We will be glad to be getting away from this rainy weather, although at least it's not really cold yet. We're both tired from work also and will apppreciate this holiday. Our daughter is staying in the uk so we're getting abit more space than we originally bargained for!
