Island hopping

Hello

I am returning to Tobago after a couple of years- taking advantage of those cheap Jan Excel flights- and can't wait to be sipping on a Carib on Man O War Bay! However, we were also planning to spend a couple of days island hopping. Specifically, we were hoping to go with LIAT to Grenada. This flight goes via Barbados. On the LIAT website, you can choose which connecting flight to catch from Barbados (Tobago flight arrives at 1.10pm, you can choose to go on to Grenada at 3.25pm, 6pm, or 8.10pm).

My question is: are you allowed to leave the airport at Barbados and spend a few hours looking around before catching a later onward flight, with a Tobago-Grenada return ticket?

I have tried asking LIAT but they aren't answering my emails. Obviously if we could it would be nice to catch a glimpse of another island en route, but we weren't sure if it was permissible. If anyone has any ideas on this, I would be really very grateful to hear them- I don't want to book a later onward flight if it means we have to spend 7 hours in Barbados airport!!

Thanks very much.

Hi Zoe,

in 2002 I did fly from Tobago to Grenada and later from Martinique back to Tobago. I made a two weeks sail trip from Grenada to Martinique. I boocked all flights from Germany and had no problems. Well, the flight back from Martinique ... I guess I saw almost every airport in the Caribbean  and all on one day! On Barbados I missed the last flight to Tobago and Liat payed a nice Hotel, the lift from and to the airport and all meals. The took very good car of me and I wasn't angry because I stayed for 4 weeks in the Caribbean and one day for free on Barbados wasn't the worst choice.

When I booked the flights I heard about tickets for island-hopping. You could buy 3, 5 or more flights in one price and then just go to the airport (or call Liat) to book a flight to any Caribbean destination. As far as I remember the ticket was valid for 3 month.
Unfortuantely I can not find my papers from that tour, but will keep on seraching. Maybe you check "Air Travel & Getting To Tobago"

Anyway, enjoy your stay and have a Carib on me

Cheers

Thanks

Thanks very much for your thoughts, these are useful. I did finally get a reply from LIAT also confirming that it was possible, so I will post a reply to let you know how we got on!

Thanks
