Hi all!
Can anyone help? I understand the Kariwak Village has/had live Jazz at 9.00pm on Fridays – is this still so?
Where is the Kariwak Village (in relation to the Coco Reef)?
What is the Kariwak Village (Club, bar, hotel...)?
Is it Trad Jazz, Jazz funk or some other permutation?
Are there any entry requirements (membership, entry fees, dress code...)?
How long is the set/are the sets... (9:00 til...)?
Can anyone recommend? Would be grateful to hear from anyone with any info.
Many thanks, Stewart (a Jazz fan)

Hi Stewart
Although it is said to be a very good little hotel, the Kariwak sadly has probably the weiredest and rudest management on the island. They give the impression of considering public relations a deadly disease. We have never been able to illicit the courtesy of a reply from the owner. Frankly, it is no surprise that on the occassions we have visited to try the restaurant, we have been less than impressed and found it unfriendly. Having said that, lots of visitors really rate the restaurant.
Consequently I can't tell you anything about the Jazz other than that we met some friends there for dinner last March and checking my diary, I see that it was a Friday. I don't recall any jazz.
Directions are easy. Turn right out of the Coco Reef. Walk up past Store Bay and take the next turning left, into Store Bay Local Road. The entrance to the Kariwak (just a narrow driveway) is around 250m down, on the right. Its well under a 10-minute walk from the Coco Reef.
Hopefully somebody else can answer regarding the jazz.

Thanks for the prompt reply – and directions. Hopefully news about the possibility of any Jazz will follow in time.
Have a fantastic up-and-coming trip!

Hi, Stewart.
We stayed at the Kariwak in June and I can't recall any jazz either. Certainly there wasn't any jazz music advertised in the restaurant's blackboard, nor any word of such upon arrival. A band played some local music (sometimes with an international touch) on weekends, and that was about it. Regardless, the hotel is fantastic in a boutique/character sort of way, and its restaurant quite good. Great location if you don't plan to use a car, too. We plan to stay there again when we return to Tobago. Just don't expect any real jazz entertainment, unless something has changed in the months in between.

Hi Stewart,
I'm sure the Kariwak still had the Jazz nights when were there in November. If you give them an email I'm sure they will answer as they have been pretty good when I have contacted them. You could also ask if Ruth Osman is still singing vocals, she has a great voice.
Regards
Kevin

Thanks Kevin
Good Idea, will search for an email address and drop them a line. We are off a week today – will report back if Ruth is still singing there.
Cheers – Stewart
