HAS ANYONE FLOWN WITH EXCEL PREMIUM ECONOMY AND WHAT WAS IT LIKE AS I HAVE HEARD MIXED VIEWS [/b]

Welcome aboard!

We have used the Golden Caribbean/Excel service to Tobago for the past four visits to Tobago because they represent the best value option for getting there. We've always flown Excel Pemium or Excel One but this year we decided to try the Standard Economy.

Excel standard economy used to have a 28/29 inch seat pitch. They got an awful lot of criticism for the lack of legroom. With the introduction of a different aircraft for the route last year, they increased that to 30". They then reconfigured the aircraft for this past winter and increased the pitch to 32 inches - which is an inch more than BA or Virgin standard economy. That's why we wanted to try it. We were not dissapointed! Flights both ways left on time and arrived early; the catering was good outbound, but poor on the return (all flight catering from Tobago is poor); the staff were excellent. All-in-all highly recommended.

The Premium Economy seat pitch is 34 inches, so you get extra legroom, plus complimentary drinks.

(p.s. I know I'm a deaf old codger, but thought you might like me to mention that typing in upper-case is the equivalent of shouting in netiquette and is normally used simply to stress a word or two - unless you ARE shouting at somebody. )

Only joking Kristian.

You might find a jet ski or two by the Conrado hotel, just before the entrance to Pigeon Point resort. But why not hire a hobby cat or wind surf board instead- much less NOISY and it won't irritate the rest of us.

We flew Excel Premium economy for the the first time this year and thought that the extra £100 or so was well worth it.

On the subject of jet skis - there are now several available from the approach road to Pigeon Point Heritage Park.

We had a morning's fishing rudely interrupted by a family of hooligans, who insisted on shouting and hollering at each other, then ploughing up and down, whilst taking it in turns to show off their lack of skill on these machines.

Some of the guys who rent them out show little regard for the safety of other beach and water users either. I fear that their bravado (recklessness) may result in someone's injury before too long.

God help us, the day they reach Castara Giselle

Alas they seem to have arrived in Castara! Not jetskis, but an idiot in a pirogue called 'Sunshine' tearing round and round the bay at great speed towing a boy on a bodyboard. We were snorkelling and had seperated a little from my son when this **** started driving his boat round between the boats and swimmers. I was terrified that they might hit my son. This happened on several of the days we were there - in front of the lifeguard who did nothing to stop it. I fear there is a disaster there waiting to happen.

I can't believe they let this happen in Castara. I know most of the live guards and normally they really take care but if this happened on several days it looks like they don't care... Horroble, ich will write an email to my friends in Castara and ask what is going on.

Steve P., you sure have connections. Looks like we need to do something to save Castara.

I loved the rest of my holiday, and especially Castara. It is beautiful beyond belief. It was our first visit to Tobago and apart from 'Sunshine' everything was perfect. The weather was quite hard going but even the locals were complaining about a heat wave and we had one girl asking if she could come back to Britain with us to get away from the heat! We're going back in February so hopefully it won't be quite so hot and humid then. I long to be back on the balcony looking at the stars and the fireflies - it's an amazing experience.

good to hear that you enjoy Castara and Tobago. Hopefully weather in February will be not be too hot. I was in Tobago in different month and only in July it was much too hot (Paul Weatherman will let us know early enough, I guess).
Watch the meeting board on this site in January. Maybe we meet and can have a nice cold Carib in Castara then. I plan to go there for the Carnival.

What's carnival like in Castara? We will be there just before carnival - 10th -17th February. I know most of the action is over in Trinidad, but will there be anything happening in Castara?

Hi Sally,

oh yes, there is a lot of action around carnival in Togabo. Most of it in Scarborough. Street parades and j'ouvi on Tuesday morning 4 am. Big partys everywhere. Not as much and as big as in Trinidad but on the other side not as violent. You find the datens on this website.
