Hi everyone

When we return in October we are keen to do some more snorkelling can anyone recommend places we could go that would be suitable with kids of 8 & 10. They are both quite strong swimmers. We have heard that Arnos Vale is quite good so any feedback on that would be good & any other recommendations also.

Thanks

Donna

Hi Donna,

I can definitely recommend Arnos Vale. The reef starts about three feet from the waters' edge (quite literally, in places!), and you can put your face in the water and see fish while the water's only at waist height. If the sea has been rough, sometimes the visibility isn't fabulous, but it soon settles again. I never tire of the snorkelling there, there's always something new to see. There's a Dive Shop on the beach that sells masks and snorkels, as well as fins, or rents them on a daily basis. They were very helpful and were happy to provide tips on the best places to see certain things, and also offered us the loan of a snorkelling vest if we needed it.

There are other good snorkelling beaches, Englishman's Bay, for example, and also Little Tobago has some excellent reefs, but in my humble opinion, Arnos Vale takes some beating. I take my daughter there quite often - she's eight and doesn't like waves very much, but even she's happy there! I also took a relative of mine who's 68 - she was also completely comfortable, despite never having snorkelled before!! She went on to do her PADI Open Water Course on the basis of that one session! I think it was spending twenty minutes swimming with the turtles that persuaded her!

Hope you enjoy yourself.

Hi Donna,
If you dig back in the posts around August 04 I put togther a list of snorkelling sites around the Island. One I will recommend is the glass bottom boat and snorkeling trip out of BWI up at Speyside. There are a couple of options and the reefs of of Little Tobago are in great condition.
