I have just rented a car via Yes Tourism for our trip next year. What an incredibly efficient and friendly company who answered all my seemingly endless questions virtually by return and also found me a vehicle that wasn't on the hire company's website. Also negotiated a very acceptable price too. Many thanks Iris for all your help and hope to meet you when we visit.

I agree about the efficiency of Yes Tourism's car hire service. We know Iris anyway, as she looks after the house we rent in Castara, but she pointed me in the direction of Yes Tourism's online car hire registration. I completed as much of this as possible in advance, which made the actual delivery process so much quicker and easier.

By the way, I will also put in another good word for KCNN here. We used them for the second year running. When Charmaine delivered the car to us, it arrived the evening before we were expecting it. She remembered us from last year and gave us an armful of sweetcorn and bagful of peppers from her allotment. Also, we were meant to have the car collected on the Friday evening, before we left on Saturday (for which she had already waived the pick-up charge). When it was still there on Saturday morning, we were about to give her a call, when Porridge arrived outside to say that he had agreed to take the car back, but hadn't had time, so suggested we just took it back to the airport with us. This we duly did, with Charmaine's agreement. No extra cost, and saved Iris another journey to the airport with all our luggage.

So I'd recommend Yes Tourism AND KCNN.

PS Look carefully at the different excess payments for various companies for limited CDW rather than full CDW. Last year we opted for full CDW, but this year, with KCNN, I think the maximum payment with limited CDW was around US$500. We took the calculated risk of paying the lower CDW charge, which saved us around US$15 a day. Yes Tourism have all the charges set out very clearly within their car hire section on their website. Other companies seem to have much higher excesses, so full CDW becomes more attractive.

Yes, I agree with you although admit to being a Newbie! The CDW seemed a little confusing to me to start with and all the differing rates.

As you say, the Yes Tourism website shows the car hire and CDW charges very clearly and we opted, via YT, for KCNN as they were able to supply a vehicle for my husband's requirements and I was lucky enough to win a weeks car hire through MyTobago prize draw.

I have to say that I'm sure the other recommended car hire companies give great service too.

Linda & I will not be ariving in Tobago until April 2007, ( the wait is killing me )can anyone advise how far in advance most people book the vehicle hire, I was supprised to see people booking 5-6 months in advance?javascript:emoticon(':roll:')

I'm afraid that's a bit of a "how long is a piece of string" question.

A lot depends upon what sort of vehicle you are booking and with whom. The important thing to remember is that the Tobago rental fleets are very small. Even the biggest agencies on the island have total local fleet sizes of no more than 40 vehicles - of which probably no more than 30 are operational at any time. If you want anything special, like top-of-the-range larger saloons and large 6-seater+ vehicles, each agency probably only has one or two examples, so it is vital to get in early.

I have no idea what percentage of visitors book in advance. Its certainly a good idea, but the truth is that the vast majority, I suspect, do not do so until they are on-island and can better guage what they want to do.

PS the site is great, I look in most lunch times from work, and the amount of information which it holds is amazing, I feel like the people who contribute are old friends yet I have never met anyone, keep it up everyone.

We visited Tobago in March/April this year during at a fairly busy time & as we were undecided how long or exactly when we wanted a car for we left booking until we were there. We booked a hard top jeep through Sheppeys on the recommendation of the MyTobago site. We phoned on Thursday & they were able to deliver it to us the following day, the service was very efficient (for Tobago time!) & very very friendly. In addition to hiring a car we also used a taxi several times to take us out & about & found this a really great alternative as the driver was so friendly & full of information & advice. Whilst we enjoyed hiring a car my husband found it good to be able to sit back & enjoy some of the beautiful scenery rather than wondering what was coming round the next bend in the road!

Welcome aboard!

While trying to keep the smile from my face, I have to ask what you mean by "limo"? Let's just say that the Tobagonian example is somewhat different to what you might be expecting, if you haven't been there before.

Basically there are no such thing as limos on Tobago and certainly not available for self-drive. The Yes Tourism website gives full details of all the makes/models of self-drive rental available through the reliable services that they work with.

Nick,if you mean the stretch limo type thing then no,there are none on the island,that I know of.The nearest is the Coco Reefs two convertable Rolls-Royce,and they are not for hire..To be frank I doubt very much if there would be any calling for them or for that matter whether they would be able to navigate on the majority of roads in Tobago.You,ll have to do with a large saloon!

Yes, I understand what "limo" means - what I meant is what level of car do you consider a limousine? Here in the UK the term is nowadays only used to refer to American stretched limos - TripleT's as umarket professional chauffeurs call them (Trailer Trash Transport). They have a very different and down-market appeal over here. However, I know that many Americans can also refer to most top end saloons as limos - cars such as the Lincoln Town Car.

If the latter, you are in luck. Patrick from Yes Tourism has emailed me from the World Travel Market exhibition in London to say he can't access the forum direct, but would I inform you that they can organise a range of 'limos' including a stretched Lincoln Town Car, BMW 7 series or Mercedes SEL.

A big thank you to Yes Tourism for dealing with my car rental through KCNN.

A three door model was booked however a five door model greeted us.

Kenrick, always on time) met us at the airport with an absolutely gleaming car (even the tyres shone) and he cheerfully helped us with our luggage both on arrival and departure.

We had absolutely no problems with the car during our two month hire so a big thank you to Kenrick and Charmaine and to Iris of Yes Tourism for making the arrangements.
