myTobago – your questions, review and comment about Tobago

Good morning to everybody,

since some days I read your very informing forum even so my English lessons are fare away, sorry for my mistakes.

My husband and I, both in the middle of 50 th plan to go to Togago for 2 weeks february/ march 2007. I am a real snorkel freak and I like snorkeling directly from the hotel beach and we likes rooms with see view.

What hotels would you recommend to us? Maybe it would be nice to stay in two hotels to have different impressions.

Welcome aboard!

No excuses needed - I wish I could speak German as well as you speak English.

The choice of hotel is very dependent upon your budget. Two hotels spring to mind. The Coco Reef Resort at the top end of the budget range; and the Blue Waters Inn in Speyside at the lower end. The Arnos Vale Hotel would be another possibility and has the best snorkelling of the three, but sadly their standards have dropped too low to be able to recommend them.

thank you for your quick reply. Budget is not the main problem. If there is a wonderful hotel at a lovely place with a good atmosphere, I would think oh, so much money, my husband would say, let's do it, may be live is short and we should not miss a chance to have a really grood time. But if it's only expensive and the atmosphere for me is better in a smaller hotel, I would regret not to get more good feeling for less money.

I am not sure if the Coco Reef is worth the money for me, the pictures to be seen in the German catalogs are not really my taste, and I think the “easy going” in a small hotel brings more Tobago feeling.

I think Blue Waters Inn is situated on the Atlantic Coast, and I prefer the watercolor of the Caribbean see.

Some more suggestions?

Your best bet is to read our hotel reviews, available through the Reviews menu at the top of the page, and/or to use the Accommodation listings to search for suitable property.

I mentioned those particular hotels because virtually other hotels have what might be described as good snorkelling directly off the hotel beach.

Don't worry about the Blue Waters being on the Atlantic side - its set in a protected and very beautiful little bay (see our review for photos). Its also home to the best diving around the island and the snorkelling possibilities are excellent.

Hi... I´d prefer the area around Castara (Pirates Bay, Lovers Bay down to Couland Bay) for snorkeling. The little reefs are very nice and not too far away (we went there by Fisherboat and had some fresh bbq-Tuna after...)

The Blue Waters Inn is a perfect location, too. There you can watch the biggest brain coral in the world and also go to Likkle ´bago to watch birds.

It´s on the atlantic side of the Island but in a protected bay (no high waves) and you have also the poss. to drive by car to Manowar Bay or to Flagstaff Hill (which I liked very much) etc.

It really depend´s on what else you´re planning to do...

Thanks for the advices. I am looking for a place where I can snorkle from the place where I live. Sometimes I spend my holidays on maledives and it is great to go out from your home and just into the water. I don't like to leave my things on the beach while snorkling.

I would like to stay on a place with not so much trouble around, but not to lonesome, having a car, but not the hole time.

Now I'm reading like Steve saied, the accomodation list.

Anna M,if you want to snorkel from your room then definitely Castara,Ali Baba's See breeze is right on the beach and the reef is practically on the beach as well.

Ref Steve's comments on Coco Reef and BWI. I have stayed at both and IMHO BWI offers be better snorkeling, I normaly dive, but often snorkel around the bay, youhave the advantage of Little Tobago Island boat trips that will take you out for snorkeling trips too.

thank you for your tip. Is it good at BWI for only snorkeling from hotel beach? I have a problem with boat tours, because I nearly get seasick only watching a boat.

Hi Anna

The beach at BWI is fine for snorkeling and there is a lot to explore and you can follow the rocks out to each point which will take yoy a good few days to cover.

Last year I saw a hawksbill turtle while snorkeling and before I arrived they had had a Manta in the bay so you could get lucky.

The bay is very sheltered so don't let the boat trip put you off it's only about 15 minutes.

Hi Anna,

as David wrote the AliBaba SeeBreeze in Castara is highly recommended. It is directly on the beach (looks like you can jump from the balkony - but the water ist not deep enough there). The reef is right in front of the beach,a quiet place and there is also a nice restaurant.

Also Stephanie is keeping the appartements in somehow "German standard" She is German and married to Brian "Ali Baba" and both will take very good care of their customers.

Anyway, wherever you will stay in Tobago enjoy your holidays and have a Carib on me

Hi Anna,

well I normally don't drink much beer but you really should try Carib, when you are there on the other way rum is the perfect drink in the Caribbean. And enjoy Rumpunch! If you will stay in Castara the Rumpunch at the boathouse on little bay (right in front of AliBabas SeeBreze) is the best


When you go there in February maybe we can meet because I plan to go there for Carnival with some friends. What the "Meeting Board-topic"
