My wife and I are going to Tobago on the 9th Sept. We are hiring a car for 9 days, can you tell us where we can get a good map, all the ones in the UK are for Trinidad and Tobago, which only has a small map of Tobago on them. We also would like to do some walking.

Hello Bill
Welcome aboard!
You have two basic options. All the decent rental firms will provide you with a free road map of Tobago. These advertising maps are freely available at the Tourist Information office, opposite the airport arrivals exit and hotels, etc.
Alternatively, have a look at the Tobago/Maps menu above for details of a good wipe-clean laminated map that we use.

Steve
Thanks for the info.
I sent a email to Borch this is their reply.
Dear Bill,
We still do the maps, although they are now running under the name Borch Map.
And Tobago is not in our present range, although we do have the cartography (not updated yet).
Kind regards,
Kerstin

Hi Bill
Ooops - sorry, for some silly reason my link to the Insight FlexiMaps was taking you to the Borch site. They are own the cartography but do not produce any maps of T&T. However, the Insight FlexiMap is still available. I've updated the link on the map page, but you can use it direct from here:

Hi Steve
I ordered my map from the above link but they have come back to me and said "Thank you for the above order placed on our website. Unfortunately we are unable to supply this title as this is temporary out of stock with no due date."
So, I have ordered from
http://www.stanfords.co.uk/mapdetails/m ... loc_id=140
It is a waterproof map of both Trinidad and Tobago and costs £4.99 plus £1.30 P & P. Just hope it's as good as the Insight Maps.

Hi
Just to say that I received the Stanfords map this morning and it is very disappointing. 95% is Trinidad!!!

Hi Gill
Yes, I've got a copy of that map - which is the Rough Guide Map Trinidad & Tobago - and it frankly a misleading con to sell it as a map of Tobago. It has to be said that although the map of Tobago is small, it is clear and readable and could be worse. However, having to manhandle this huge 100x70cm map just to view the Tobago section, which is just 23x16cm, is ridiculous and certainly not something you could do whilst driving.
Don't worry - simply wait until you get there and then pickup one of the free advertising maps that the Tourist Office, hotels and car rental companies give away for free. Franly they're quite good enough for driving around Tobago.

Hi Steve
Yes, that map I bought was a bit of a waste but never mind - we always take a compass!!!

Yup,going north and the sea is on your right, you are heading for rox/spey.

Thanks David
I think my slight worry of getting lost comes from doing just that a few years ago in Barbados!!! Hey, the sugar cane was so high that we couldn't see over the top of it hence the small compass - we took two hours to drive what should have taken 10 minutes!

Hi Bill and Gill
We always come back from Tobago with at least a couple of the freebie maps, which are really good value

and we give them to friends who are planning trips (usually based on our recommendations).
The advantage of having a good map before you go is that you can familiarise yourself with where everything / everywhere is. Getting the lay of the land is also helpful for choosing accomodation etc.
The maps on myTobago and the aerial photos are great to help you get your bearings (no compass needed), but if you want a map each, then drop me a pm with your address details and I'll pop a 'low milage - one careful owner' map in the post to you.
Cheers
Steve

Thanks Steve
That's very kind of you to offer but I've managed to get a freebie map but it's not on a par with the Insight maps.

Steve,
Thanks very much. I have emailed you - we are leaving on Friday for our flight on Saturday morning so no worries if you cannot get it in the post on time.
Have printed off numerous pages from this web site which has been invaluable. We have been to a number of international destinations on holiday but we are more excited about this holiday than we have ever been before!

Hi tracey...
If steve is unable to get one to you then this is basically the map...
http://islreal.com/images2005/tobago_map.jpg
It's the same as the one you can pick up free at the airport but this gives you an extra day or so to aquaint yourself with the island.
Hope it helps,
Matt
