charlotteville to Tobago Forest Reserve?

Hello,
I'm planning a trip for my boyfriend and best friend and I (aren't I lucky?) end of December, beginning of January, for 2 weeks. (couple days on either end of that in and around POS)
I was wondering if it's possible to hike from Charlotteville into the Forest Reserve? Looks awfully close on the map. Are there guides to be hired in Charlotteville? I'm an experienced hiker/backpacker but have never been to Tobago and every piece of advice I've seen so far on this site has said to get a guide (possible for security reasons?..).
Also does anyone have a thought for Castara vs. Charlotteville for a 10-day stay?
I'm leaning towards Charlotteville..
Thank you for the help and thanks Steve for the most helpful site!!

Anna, welcome to the site(sorry Steve). Most of the north of the Island is the reserve,so you are never really out of it.As for Castara or C'ville,I would definitely plump for Castara. It is a lot quieter and yet gives easy access to ther beaches andplaces of interest. It is definitely worth taking a guide into the forest, first for his knowledge of flora and fauna, second,he would know the less dangerous places to go finally, and he won't get you lost!!!!

Anna, I agree with David. Castara is more centrally located. C'ville is the "end of the road" so you'd waste time travelling on the same road over & over. Also, there's more of a variety of accommodations & restaurants to choose from in Castara.
