Hello All.
We'll be going back to Tobago for Christmas, something of a new Tradition for our family.
We were there in 2005 and had a wonderful time.
We're looking for safe beaches for our family. Safe in that the water is calm and good for children (2 1/2 yr old and 6 mnth old) and also safe from crime.
Can anyone recommend such a beach?
I was thinking about Canoe Bay (liked the photo I saw) but a friend said the road is bad and that it is isolated. Is this true?

Regards
Chris

Hi Chris

Welcome aboard!

As I read your question, the Canoe Bay Resort immediately sprang to mind - and then I saw it had sprung to yours too. Great minds think alike!

Yes, the mile-long road is a pain in the butt and it is somewhat isolated, but there is a security 24 hour security guard (although I can make no comment as to his efficiency). It is certainly a very safe beach and I, personally, would not be worried about 'safety' in other senses. The place certainly represents excellent value, but your own car is absolutely essential. You can see further details of the Canoe Bay Resort in our personal review - available either through the Accommodation listings or the Reviews menu above.

Other than that, it depends entirely upon your budget.

Hi
Thanks for your reply.
Most likely we'll be staying at Crown Point Hotel.
That hotel is a favourite with my mom. We had a good time there in Dec 05 even though there was rennovation going on.
Plus as a child that is the only place we stayed.
To tell the truth my mom is a bit reluctant to try any place else.
In Feb 06 we stayed at Sandy Point Village and it was rather horrible!
We asked for a studio that accomodated 4 people with a toddler and got a studio with a loft (and steps). Not only that the quality of the rooms left much to be desired.
Maybe if we were only adults with no toddler to tumble down the stairs then it would have been better.
Mind you we compare everything to the Seychelles. My wife being a former manager at a 4 1/2 star hotel over there. So she has unusually high standards.
It amused us that the Hilton's highest rate is the lowest of my wife's hotel in Seychelles!

Back in Dec 05 we did check out Castra & Englishman's Bay and then drove up from Englishman's Bay to Charlotteville along a road that was not complete. But due to stories of crime I am reluctant (as is my family) to head up that way again. Although I love it.

Pidgeon Point while nice is a bit windy and exposed at times. And not to mention crowded (at least when I was there).
