Hi to those that know me (it's been a while!)...
quickie to those who don't but can help -
experiences of taking a 2 year old to Tobago?
Good/bad?
Probably need self catering (both prior visits pre-baby were to Turtle Beach) and may well decide it's a trip too far and end up somewhere far less enchanting like Europe - but thought I'd ask.
Tobago is calling!

Hello Marc
Can't tell you a thing about taking a 2-year old to Tobago, but just wanted to welcome you back. Good to hear that Tobago is calling.

Only reason I disappeared from here was because it was too painful to be so in touch and so unlikely to visit!
Not a day passes when I don't dream of Tobago - and of course you know very well this place played the major role in me falling so head over heels with the island!
As soon as I can convince myself the new nipper is up to it I'm going back like a shot!
Glad to see the place still as vital and as appreciated as ever Steve!

Hi Marc,
I'm a Brit lucky enough to be living in Tobago, and since I've been here, I've actually had my second child. Whilst I thought it would be far more difficult and problematic, I've got the happiest, most wonderful, contented 10 month old little girl that I could ever hope for! I'm sure that Tobago's laid back attitude rubs off, even at that age! There's always aggrovation taking a young child anywhere, but I'd go so far as to say that here is no worse than the majority of places!! Just think of it in terms of how early you can get your little one acclimatised to your (hopefully!) regular trips!
Best regards,
Lisa.

Hi Marc
We have just returned from our second visit to Turtle Beach this year with our daughters of 8 & 10.There were several families there with babies/toddlers from 9months upwards, they along with their offspring appeared just as chilled out as the rest of us. We took our girls to Antigua when our youngest was about the same age as your little one & never regretted it once. I'd say go for it you're never too young to enjoy Tobago & its' people!

Hi Marc,
Go for it!! Let the kid enjoy.
December 12th; counting the days. We’ll be back in Tobago spending Christmas, second time this year. And accompanied by our just 2 years old son Sam. For Sam, this will be the fourth time he’ll be swimming at Mt. Irvine. The first time we took him, he was just 5 months old.
For us, beside taking precautions in case of the possible natural worries in the Caribbean like sunburn, dehydration and mossies, we can’t tell that we had any trouble at all.
Everything you need for personal care, according to European standards, you can purchase at drugstores and supermarkets. Whether you need lotions, nappies, food, we found it all in the local stores.
Just use your common sense and you’re kid will do great. Let him/her stroll along the beach an he/she will feel like a king/queen in paradise.
We stayed every visit at Sherwood park apartments in Carnbee, self-catered with more than enough service of the staff, regular and good cleaning and always willing to help in case you need some. The pool is just great when you travel with kids.
Last time in April we took Sam out fishing on Barry St. George’s boat Alpha Lime. Wearing a good life jacket he had the best of times and even managed to haul in his first fish ever (making his dad a very proud dad).
Staying with small children in the Caribbean time zone is taking care of the fact that they will be up and running long before most of us would. For us that means we’ll be out fishing the beaches at the break of light without setting an alarm clock. At least in the first week. (Nothing beats catching your own snapper for dinner)
In all, with Sam, we have been around Tobago just like we had done all the times we visited Bago before he enriched our lives. Rain forest trips, boat trips, liming at the beach, visiting Scarborough, driving up to Charlotteville, no need to hold back. One thing we tried to plan every day was getting him to sleep at the apartment.
The biggest concern we had was during the flights; will he be able to sleep and adjust for about 10 hours. Amazingly, he was. Hope he will again in December.
So, don’t worry whether you bring a kid or not. Book a fly, get an apartment/villa and ENJOY…..
Toine. Lia and Sam.

Thanks Toine/Lia,
I hadn't actually thought about how relaxing it would be seeing young Theo lime about the beach - I was too busy thinking about what a handful he is at home but I guess there's only such much trouble you can get into on a sunny beach!
Early mornings and early to bed would be the norm there as here but I guess that also makes more sense than here at home!
I suppose in summation the answer is why not rather shall I!
I was a bit concerned about car hire (ie with a seat) and not being as free to go out to sea etc but sitting on beach with a babe has to be better than getting trodden on in Spain!
I can almost taste the roti and carib from here!

Marc,
I know from my experiences that our kids and grandkids loved playing in the sand at the waters edge from when they could barely walk ( and this is sand here in the states which is nowhere near as nice as Tobago).
Go for it
Bill
