As posted in two other topics I was in Tobago last week so here is a summary of my fishing exploits.
Staying at Rex Turtle Beach nearly all my fishing was done from the pier at Plymouth, starting using sabiki rigs to catch bait fish. These are good rigs given my inability to use a cast net and on their day work well. The first day i had a medium amount of luck by casting a 100g spoon from half way up the pier back to the shore and jerking it back rapidly, catching some decent sized fish. Please excuse my ignorance for not knowing exactly what they were !
Things took a far better turn when a local gave me a bag of fresh "whitebait",all I can say is wow.it was a fish a cast and when i had a few decent sized fish i float fished them as live baits or fished dead baits freelined.I caught some good sized mackerel,a tarpon of about six pounds and a gorgeous kingfish.
i also hooked a big ray and a good sized tarpon which stripped line from my reel like a freight train before jumping and shedding the hook. The fish that snapped my 50lb shock lead were the ray and the tarpon but I was using hooks that rapidly disolve in sea water so they will show no ill effect.
All in all a great fishing trip
