myTobago – your questions, review and comment about Tobago

As topic stated,

Have 5 weeks to go before i land in tobago, as this forum have coverd everything i need to know before flying "i never knew this much before i been in a country before i traveld there"

One thing im abit intrested in, Tobago has some shark species, and they are all pretty calm sharks "if all my time infront off animal planet and such channels have learnd me annything." And a big fan off shark shows off all kinds as they are such remarkble creatures i offcurse wonder if their is anny tours or simmilar that will take u to sharks?.

As im not qulified by anny means to try to find/ and watch them bymyself .

If i read right, their is a chance that i can see nurse sharks snorkling i guess. But also hammerheads and reef sharks are around if i understand this webpage alright. But then i need to go to deeper waters?.


And a side question while im posting, Is their anny good tattoo artist in tobagoo?

Mikael,Idon'tknow about the sharks,but I can say that there are few tatoo'd locals in Tobago.Those that have these scars have generally been to the US,Canada or UK.

never heard about shark tours. usually people want to see dolphins and since dolphins and sharks are not really friends you won't see them in the same area much...

there was a tattoo shop at pigeon point area but they are gobne, don't know if relocated or if they gave up. having a tattoo myself I would not try to get one here. the heat does not go too good with the healing I guess and swimming would be off limits for some days too. also most artists need a second session to see how the skin took it and perfectionize (does this word exist?) their work.

I guess some locals might have gotten theirs abroad as david said or maybe in trinidad.

About the tatto there brian, Yeah if u do with machine u schould not get sun or swin with it for a week atleast. (so if their been one, i would have done it the last day) Tho tatto artist that need a second sitting "right after" are a tatto artist u schould NOT be going to .

Have a couple done and well was planing to do another toghter with my brother, there for the question. "tho learnd that if u do a tatto with bambu sticks u can actully swim the day after" Tryed it out when i was in thailand last winter. And that one have turned out to be the best one i ever done.

theres a couple of tattoo parlours in scarborough - ive seen the work of one of these and have to say its very good. hes in the little cut-through by the new bank uptown but only some of the time as he also works/stays on trinidad.

no-one that i know offers a specific "shark spotting" tour. your luck is definitely the variable for this im afraid.

Hi Mikael,

The shark info covered here is pretty much spot on. There are, however, several dive sites located around the island, where the likelihood is greater that you will see sharks. For example, there's a high possibility of seeing hammerheads around Sisters, St Giles, London Bridge area than, say, any of the in-shore reefs. Divers Dream is another regular shark-spotting area. However, the dives are NOT designed to interact with them at all. There's no feeding, or encouragement or any promotion of interaction... just that there's a definite possibility of seeing them there. It's not a guarantee, obviously, but I'd say two out of three trips to Sisters, we see hammerheads. Nurse sharks and black tipped reef sharks are also fairly regular visitors located in and around Speyside / Little Tobago. But like everything truly natural... the only guarantee is that there are no guarantees!! You may see 10 sharks, you may see none at all!!

I'm sure you'll enjoy your visit even if you don't see a single shark!

im on the wrong boat - not seen hammerheads for this year yet .

just out of interest though, dived for months and saw very few of any brand then suddenly about 2 weeks ago, theyre all back !! sharkfest on flying reef/dream/thirst. even spotted a juvenile nurse shark on kariwak .

anyone else observed this?

ref feeding - you could hang around any of the areas where the fishermen clean the catch and see what gets drawn in, but thats the closest to chumming youll get .

Sharks, there are quite a few around Tobago. Mostly reef sharks such as black tip and nurse sharks and are about all year round but they so move off the reefs in to deeper water on occasions but you have a good chance to see them at any time. The juveniles can come very close in shore so you have a chance of seeing them while snorkeling on most of the inshore reefs.
The Hammerheads are migratory and if memory serves me correctly January to May are the most likely times to see them.
