We had a fantastic time in the lush island of Tobago! Would strongly recommend Blue Waters Inn in Speyside. Great location right on the beach with tropical surroundings among birds, lizards and turtles. As for food you can't beat Jemma's in Speyside town. Great home cooking at cheap prices. We found the best beaches at Pirate's Bay and Englishman's Bay. No real white sand on any Tobago beach but still very pretty and the best of all, unspoilt from the usual Caribbean. The best restaurant on the island will have to be Melange at Shirvan Rd. "Michelin star" cooking at cheap prices; 3 course meal for TT140! All in all Tobago is a wonderful place to go and relax for a few weeks or longer if you have time on your hands.

Pia; Appreciate you fresh impressions from the island. How did you go about mosquitos? Were there plenty or did you hardly notice any? Did you consistently have to apply repellent (day and night) or is that no issue? Any mention about dengue fever (or innocent flus) picking up on Tobago? Your up-to-date comments would be welcome....

Hi Chris, Must say we didn't have too much of a trouble with mosquitos. Did apply repellent in the evenings but still got bitten a few times. Don't think it can be avoided... One local friend caught dengue fever a while back but he lives with open kitchen and livingroom to the jungle! Don't think this is too much of a threat to a tourist living in hotels. Apart from that there were no news about dengue but plenty of news on the radio regards to kidnappings and shootings in Trinidad. We then descided to do an island hop to Barbados for some shopping instead. Hope this is of some help to you and any further questions let me know...
