I tried the Nortern route from Castara to C'ville yesterday and found in the most part it was a very good road.There is still some repair and construction going on but I would say that it is 70% complete-including cenral and road edge white lining.In fact I would say it is better than the presemt Mason Hall/Castara road--fefinitely wider dor the most part.Progress on resurfacing and in some places widenning the road from Parlatuvier to Moriah is fairly rapid,they are just entering Castara from the Parlatuvier side.This time the job is being done properly!!!!

That's great news, David. Is the road passable by car, or would you recommend 4x4? Also, how long did the drive between Bloody Bay to Charlotteville take?

we tried this road in december the other way from c'ville and although the unfinished sections are only a matter of metres long in the rain they were very slippy and muddy and almost inpassable uphill in a nissan cube! Also there were several square cutouts with a big boulder in each corner in our lane in this direction! In the dark this would be a problem although in the opposite direction not a problem at all. The finished sections are nicely paved though and make a comfortable change from most of the roads !!

Tony and Clyde,the journey from Castara to C'ville took just on the hour.The big square holes are actualy cable access points and have now been capped.An ordinary saloon ,with a bit of pep,can use the route quite comfortably but there are some challenging gradients!

Thanks, David. Maybe I'll wait till I have my Subaru Forester over in Tobago before trying the drive!

Snap again! I love my Forester. I drove to Charlottesville last year in a normal saloon car on this road, and thought nothing of it. Perhaps being a farmer I'm more used to driving on dodgy surfaces! Mind you hopefully it will be a bit quicker now it's been re-surfaced.

Can't quite figure out why the Forester will go faster now it's been re-surfaced. Anyway, I thought all the muck would help you to feel more like a real 4x4 driver and less like a posing townie.

Only joking - just my sick sense of humour!!!

I know the feeling well! Mine is always parked in the same position with the back facing north, so the tailgate is covered in green algae and moss. Do you think its about time that I cleaned it?

Steve and Gill, like you I also love my Forester. It was a real workhorse in Tobago. We built a villa at Bon Accord last year, and the Forester lugged lumber, cement, tiles, steel, PVC pipe, concrete blocks ... so a little drive to Charlotteville via Castara should be a piece of cake!

Clean it??? Hey Steve, you would devalue it!!! A friend of mine has had hers as a real workhorse for many years and no, she has never cleaned it - EVER!!!

The road is now through Castara and as of this morning was way past the Mt Dillon turn off.The depression as you enter Castara has NOT been repaired or resurfaced.If you are arriving and driving to Castar and beyond allow extra time because there can be qutie long delays.
Although the surface is very good it makes it a very fast road so consequently an additional danger is speeding trucks at bends!!!!
