25 & 26 Jan - Calls for a shutdown of the country
Posted: Wed Jan 24, 2007 11:05 am
I received the below this morning. Does anyone happen to know anything about this, and how it may specifically affect Tobago? I am due to fly in tomorrow Thurs 25th to then go on to Trinidad. Was planning to stop in Tobago for a day, then thought I would go directly to Trinidad. Am now thinking that I may have no choice but to stop in Tobago.
Any info would be very much appreciated.

Calls for a 2-day Shut Down: The Chamber's Position
There have been calls for a shutdown of the country on Thursday 25th and Friday 26th January. The Trinidad & Tobago Chamber of Industry & Commerce does not support the shutdown being called for. The Chamber is of the view that this type of action serves only to hurt workers, consumers and businesses without constructively engaging all relevant authorities in implementing a more unified and effective approach to addressing crime.
The Chamber advises its members that it is actively engaged in discussions with the Authorities to assist in alleviating the crime situation in our country.
Yours sincerely,
Trinidad & Tobago Chamber of Industry & Commerce
